Hi,
My friend just bought a new sony laptop with vista that has built in wireless. However, after numerous attempts to connect to the wireless network, windows keeps saying that it can not connect to that network. Also, it does say that it's WEP protected, but doesn't give any options to put that in.
What needs to be done to fix this problem and connect wirelessly to the web.

Thank You

Have you checked to see if your NetGear router is Vista compatible. Some NetGear routers aren't, and there are some updates available for some of them on the NetGear website.

Try disabling IPv6 for starters, and the DHCP Broadcast flag ( http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/928233 )

The WEP settings are set in your router - and you'll need to enter them in the wireless connection's properties in order to connect with WEP. BUT, the first step is to disable the WEP in the router and the computer until you get connected. Then add the WEP to the mix so things don't get unduly complicated.
