Full Version: Spylocked Remove No Success
BleepingComputer.com > Security > Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs

Hi Grinler

I am new in this forum and I am really frustrated after two days of fighting with spylocked. My husband caught the virus/trojan on his computer and usually I can call myself as being able to get rid of any virus. But not this one.

and also the suggestion that I have followed on bleepingcomputer did not help. Result? None of the files that should appear under windows\system32 as followed under step 6 in the manual removal do exist. None of the entries described under step 15 do exist. And running the clean safe mode I get the message "Cannot import cleanup.reg Error accessing the registry.

I have followed many instructions. The last one under schrockinnovations.com/removespylocked.php which recommended to download firefox. Did it all. Ran Smitrem. Got stopped. This time the message said "Cannot access Smitfraud.reg. Used SmitFraudFix, no success. Got stopped as it cannot import cleanupreg.

AVG Anti spyware was already existing on the computer. Plus AVG Free Edition. Avast, AdAware... all the newest versions. Nothing could stop or help to remove the virus. The change to firefox did not help, as recommended on schrockinnovations.com. None of the logfiles that I should be able to delete do exist. And spylocked.com actually even starts up in safe mode. It's the first thing that comes up.
And a friend of mine, a computer specialst even got the same virus, by just looking up links in relation to this virus. We all were well protected and we can't get rid of the virus/trojan what so ever.

So what can I do now???? I believe that I caught a new version of spylocked.com. At least I got rid of the pop ups, all that is left is now the question mark and a sign like a stop sign that is leading to spylocked.com. and it always comes up with the message that the computer is invected. Old story, but nothing to remove has helped. And that's unusual.

I really hope for any help you can give me. Please also advise me how to send you a hjfile if necessary, as I have never been in the situation to do so.

Kind regards
Tanja

Hi Grinler
I have never done a hijackthis logfile, but I followed the instructions given and hope, that I did do the right thing. I also attached the hijackthis file you asked for.

Thank you for all your help and I hope, that the computer will run soon again without a virus.

I also wonder, why the webpage of spylocked.com is still able to sell fake spyware. I believe that website and many others should be shut down somehow as they cause nothing else but problems.

cheers
Tanja

Create a directory on your hardrive to save HijackThis.exe. A directory like c:\hijackthis. If you do not do this, you will not be able to use the backup/restore features.

Download HijackThis from:

HijackThis Download Site

Save this file into the directory you made previously and then run the program named hijackthis.exe. When the program opens click on the Config button, then click on the Misc Tools button, and click on the Check for update online button. When it completes checking/applying updates press the back button.

Now click on the Scan button and when it is finished click on the Save Log button. A Notepad window will open with the contents of this log. Click on Edit then click on Select all. Then click on Edit and then Click on Copy.

Create a reply to this post here and right click in message area and select paste to paste the log into the post.

Someone will reply to you after reading this post. DO NOT fix any entries unless you understand what you are doing.

To see a tutorial with screenshots on using HijackThis you can click on the link below:

How to use HijackThis to remove Browser Hijackers, Malware, & Spyware

Also, do the following as well:

I need to get an export of the certain registry keys used by rogue anti-spyware programs.

Please download the following file and save it to your desktop:

roguereg.exe

Once it has downloaded, please double-click on the file, which should now be on your desktop. When the program is finished, it will create a text file on your desktop called roguereg.txt and open it in notepad.

Please post the contents of this notepad as a reply to this topic.

Hope this helps. Thanks so much

Some infections I do not know here. Please provide samples by doing the following:

Download this program:

submit files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [akpGZc1v] C:\PROGRA~1\{wxptosv\aYQDEwBM.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QgFGYsow] C:\PROGRA~1\{wxptosv\RogCI0BN.exe

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example grinler.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.

Now, let's get rid of SpyLocked:

Download the following file to your desktop:

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/FixSL.reg

When it has finished downloading, double-click on it, and allow it to merge the data when it asks.

Then,

Download Killbox.

Extract killbox.zip to your desktop and then double-click on the Killbox.exe icon.

Select the option "Delete on reboot".

In the field labeled "Full Path of File to Delete" copy and paste next:

C:\winnt\system32\ilmpjy.dll

Click the button: Single File (!important!)

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that the listed file will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES

Your computer must reboot now.

When it is back up, post a brand new hijackthis and roguereg log.

Also do you know what this is?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xMain] C:\WINNT\system32\xlaunch.exe
austan
No success...

I got to the step of killbox and downloaded killbox.exe When I double klick this exe I get the message "Killbox.exe is not a valid Win32 application" and all I can click after that is ok. This is the message I get all the time, when I get closer to the virus and also in safe mode I always get stuck right there. It's seems not to be an easy virus, whatevever it is.

I hope you will be able to find a solution. I did post the file you asked for. Hopefully you will find some information in there.

I also don't know, what the O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xMain] C:\WINNT\system32\xlaunch.exe is. I do know that my husband has all the windows messanger, yahoo messanger. Since I have downloaded Superantispyware, I know, that the computer has some additional problems starting Internet Explorer or Mozilla. I have to shut the task down of superantispyware, otherwise both browsers won't start. It might be in relation to that, I don't know.

Thank you so much for helping me. And sorry we have had no success so far.

Cheers,
Tanja
austan
I did find another version of killbox.exe and could complete all the steps you told me. I do send you now the new hijackthis log and also the new roguereg log

This is the hijackthis log

The link to spylocked.com has finished. The computer starts again much faster. All I have to get rid of now seems to be superantispyware as internet explorer or mozilla will not start anymore unless i stop the process of superantispyware in the task manager. But so far, it really does look good. I hope the virus is gone. If so, you guys are just brilliant and you know what you are talking about. I do have good hopes the virus is gone.
If there are more steps I have to do, please let me know. But thank you all for all the help

Cheers
Tanja

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [akpGZc1v] C:\PROGRA~1\{wxptosv\aYQDEwBM.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QgFGYsow] C:\PROGRA~1\{wxptosv\RogCI0BN.exe

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\PROGRA~1\{wxptosv\ <- Delete this folder

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~fstaal01/downloads/swsc.exe

Once it is downloaded, click on the Start button, then click on Run, and type cmd in the Open: field. Then press the ok button.

A black window will appear you and will see a blinking cursor. Type the following and press enter:

c:\swsc.exe delete WINIK

It should say something like the service was deleted successfully. Type exit and press enter to close the cmd prompt.

Now we need to clean up a few entries in HijackThis:

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\windows\system32\blank.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\windows\system32\blank.htm
O16 - DPF: {09F1ADAC-76D8-4D0F-99A5-5C907DADB988} - http://cdn.downloadcontrol.com/files/insta...FreeInstall.cab

Reboot your computer.

Now perform step 4 against from my second post previously. The one with running regsearch.

Last,

Perform an onlinescan with Panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a few minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Post the contents of the Panda scan report, a a fresh HijackThis log, and the results of Regsearch as a reply to this topic.

Also,

Do you what this program is?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xMain] C:\WINNT\system32\xlaunch.exe

And I am assuming this program is to set the state of your numlock key when you start the computer?

O4 - Startup: Shortcut to numlock.vbs.lnk
austan
I don't think you are going to be happy with this result.

1. I started swsc.exe and the result was "System error code 1060. The specified service does not exist as an installed service". That's how far I got there.

2. I did run the Hijackthis and marked the filet you asked for. Success

3. I did get the following result out of the new regsearch

4. I have tried to install and run the panda scan before some weeks ago, when it all started and I had no success running it. It says a pop up window is blocked on the bottom left. I disabled all the antivirus or protection programs and it still comes up. I don't know what is blocking it, but I can't run a scan with Panda.

Thought I still send you a log of the latest HijackThis

About the following programs

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xMain] C:\WINNT\system32\xlaunch.exe

O4 - Startup: Shortcut to numlock.vbs.lnk

I believe that the xlaunch.exe is a left over of the company from where we got the computer from. I don't believe it is something we need.
And the Shortcut, I really haven't got a clue. Sorry

I am sorry we have had not more success today. You must get very frustrated after all the help you have given so far, but I really do appreciate it big time. And I am really thankful
Grinler
No I am not frustrated. I expected some of those results. I still want to get rid of that leftover winik entry. Click on start, then run, and type regedit and press the OK button.

Regedit will open and I want you to navigate down to the following key. Just expand the tree one level at a time till you get to the last key in the text below.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_WINIK

When you see the Legacy_Winik key in the left hand window, I want you to left click once on it so that it is highlighted, and then press the delete key. If it prompts you about whether or not you want to delete, allow it do so.

Lets fix these entries in hijackthis as you do not use them:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [xMain] C:\WINNT\system32\xlaunch.exe
O4 - Startup: Shortcut to numlock.vbs.lnk = ?

Where is the blocked popup alert appearing? Towards the top of the Internet Explorer window? If so, right click on the alert and select allow popups from this site temporarily (or something like that) and press refresh to try load the activescan again.
austan
Just no luck. First just to inform you, I got rid off Superantispyware after it constantly caused trouble.

Then I was going to delete the LEGACY_WINIK, but when I tried so, I had the following message
"Cannot delete LEGACY_WINIK: Error while deleting key"

Would have been nice if it would have told us what kind of Error.

I then also thought I trick Panda and use Mozilla and do the scan using Mozilla, but they want me to use Internet Explorer. And also they want me to use any version later than IE5. Well I am using IE 6.0

I did fix the xlaunch.exe with Hijackthis, but I did not fix the shortcut to numlock.vbs.lnk as I was talking to the friend who did set up the computer and he actually put that in, so the numlock was working as soon as the computer was turned on.

After all that, I thought I still send you the latest HijackThis logfile and I hope it will give you any hints how to delete WINIK

Hope it does help at all. Thank you so much for your patience. Everyday I hope for success. And I am sorry it is all so complicated.
Grinler
Let's get it another way:

Start regedit and navigate back to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\Root\LEGACY_WINIK

Left click once on Legacy_Winik so it is highlighted.

Then click on the Edit menu and select permissions.

Left click once On Everyone to highlight it and then put a checkmark under Allow for Full control. Then press the Apply button and then the OK button. You should be back at the normal regedit screen. Now try to delete the LEGACY_WINIK key.
austan
I've got nothing to chose from called "permissions" under edit. All I get is New, Delete, Rename, Copy key name, Find, Find next. But mabye is helps to mention that there is a folder under Legacy-Winik which is called 0000 and that folder contains the follwing and I try to type it in as clear as possible and I hope it will show up the way I type it.

Name Type Data
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
Class REG_SZ LegacyDriver
Class Guid REG_SZ {8ECC055D-047F-11D1-A537-0000F8753ED1}
ConfigFlags REG-DWORD 0x00000000(0)
DeviceDesc Reg-SZ WinIK
Legacy REG_DWORD 0x00000001(1)
Service REG_SZ WinIk

I don't know if it is of any help. But I hope. But maybe you knew all that already anyway.

I am so glad you are trying to help so hard. And I do believe somehow we will get there.

Thanks again and again and again
Grinler
Download the following two files and save it to the C:\ folder of your computer.

Let's see one last hijackthis log, but it appears that the last key of that infection has now been removed. Great job! You can now delete the batch file and the swreg.exe file.

Happy birthday and here is your present : Your log is now clean.

Great job!

One last question, do you know what this entry is for?

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [niteLink] C:\niteLink FOS Interface\Nitel Client.exe

Now that your clean:

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Finally, and definitely the MOST IMPORTANT step, click on the following guide and follow each step listed there:

How did I get infected?

Glad I was able to help and if there any other problems related to your computer please feel free to post them in the appropriate forum. Though we help people with spyware and viruses here at BC, we also help people with other computer problems! Do not forget to tell your friends about us!

Thank you sooooo much. You guys are absolutely fantastic. I never thought I would be able to find someone who could help. And of course I will tell other people about you and I will definately have a very strong word do my husband in teaching him what to download and what not. I will do those last steps now and then I am sure that I won't be able to get my husband again of the computer. He is very thankful as well.

Have a lovely day and thank you so much again

Tanja

If you find out let me know. I don't think it is bad, but I want to add it to our startup database and not a lot of info on it.

Can you do this last thing for me please :

Download this program:

submit files packer

Highlight the files listed below in bold and right-click and selecting copy.

C:\niteLink FOS Interface\Nitel Client.exe

Then start the file packer program and right click in the white box and select paste to paste the copied file names in the field.

Then press the Continue button.

I will create an archive with these files and a small log on your Desktop that starts with a name like requested-file[date].cab.

Rename this file to yourmembername.cab (for example grinler.cab).

Then go to:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit-malware.php
and fill in the required fields and browse to this file on your desktop. Finally click on the Send File button.

Hope you had a great birthday!
austan
All sent. And yes I had a great party. Took me a while to recover.
I will check in a couple of days if there is anything else I need to do. But I hope we got rid of it all. Computer works fine.

Thanks a lot again and again and again.....
