I downloaded "free" anti-spyware and anti-virus software from AVG. When I tried to run a scan of my system, the AVG software screen froze open on the desktop and a message informed me that there was some kind of kernel problem. I currently have McAfee 4.5 (which came downloaded with the PC). Could AVG have conflicted with McAfee causing the "freeze" problem?

While trying to remove AVG software I was unable to. I tried removing it the traditional way thruough the control panel ADD/Remove programs, and I also tried through Explore and couldn't remove it either way.
I just purchased McAfee Internet Security Suite and this AVG program in conflicting with McAfee and I cannot install the McAfee software that I just bought. How do I get rid of the AVG software?
