I was wondering if windows defender will conflict with AVG anti-virus free edition. Because i know your not supposed to have more than one anti-virus protection installed at the same time, so does windows defender count as that? Or is windows defender just anti-spyware, like i think it is?

Hello Briox

There will be no conflicts. Defender is an anti-spyware program that you can run alongside your anti-virus.

Hello to all,

Although, I have searched and read this site before for answers, this is my first post here. Seems that my experience is different than quietman7's. Here what happened....

For over a year, I have run AVG free version, 3 anti-spyware programs and Windows firewall on XP Pro, all with frequent pattern updates and with no problems. Recently updated all to latest versions and added Windows Defender.

Upon rebooting everyday, I started getting a message from AVG saying a a component was in error state and that I needed to reboot. The component was AVG update manager. Naturally, rebooting did not help, nor did manually updating the AVG pattern file. Nor did scans.

When I disabled Windows Defender and rebooted, the problem was gone. Any way to make Windows Defender play nice with AVG? Thanks.

You may want to report the issue to AVG Tech Support.
