Hi, I was given an older computer for my 10 year old son, he wants to play zoo tycoon on it, when we went to install it, the computer told us we need 256 colors to play properly, I'm not sure if I need a new Graphics card or if I may just update the driver, I didn't get any disks with the computer. I hope someone will be able to help me. Let me know what information you need and I'll get it for you,
Standard PCI graphics with S3 trio3D/2x
Thanks

If you don't already have a graphics card in your computer, you can buy a fairly basic one at Newegg.com. I don't know what brand computer you have, but the link is to PCI cards. You should be able to get the higher colors with a card... blink.gif

Hope this helps, and hope I'm right... blink.gif

If you goto Control Panel - Display and look on the Settings tab what is the maximum number of colours available?

Other than that you will have to do a web search for drivers for S3 trio3D/2x. thumbup2.gif

To Keithuk

Have found driver for S3 trio 3D/2x, now how/where do I need to install on the computer. I have saved the download to a floppy disk, the download is a zip file should I un zip it first before going into upgrading driver. Thanks for your help so far.

Yes unzip the file to a folder on your system. When you go to install the driver point it to that folder. Are you sure there isn't already an option for 256 color in Display Properties > Settings?

Yes I have double checked display properties>settings all I have options for are 2 colors and 16 colors. Any ideas, will go now and unzip file to a folder

In that same window,

just above those settings,

what does the line under "Display:" read?

Sorry had to go to work in there. I don't have option to unzip anything on the computer, so I unzipped it on my computer saved it to cd then copied to folder on my sons disk, it came back with the following message:

Need disk Windows 95/98 s3 driver disk now required. This disk is provided by your computer manufacturer
CLick ok to continue.

What do I need to do now?

to reply to Johnwho, it now says (unknown monitor) on (unknown device) I'm not sure what it said before I started to put the s3 driver disk in that I downloaded.
Also, It is only giving the option for 16 colors now, 2 colors has disappeared???
