I recently removed Mcafee from my laptop as it was hogging system resources (my laptop is only 240 mb) and now I have replaced it with NOD32. Of course I now do not have a firewall (excluding Windows Firewall).
Which free firewall probably will take up the least of my system resources and yet still work efficiently? Any feedback would be great.

Hello,
The two free firewalls in my opinion that I would recommend, would be
1 sygate
http://www.tucows.com/preview/2131602 comodo
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/They are both solid products, and are capable of handling most situations. I would recommend comodo for a low resource system.
hope this helps

I have used both, but still prefer Sygate to Comodo.

Both are effective and light, huh? I better check them out; I am considering Kerio too (the last edition before it was ruined with unnecessary features).

Zonealarm 7.0 @ Download.com

I never heard of comodo seems interesting I will have to check it out. I never really liked sygate don't really know why, same with zone alarm. I have always been a fan of outpost firewall.

I have been using Comodo, and it is not bad at all. Worth giving it a go.

Zonealarm 7.0 @ Download.comI second this. Zone Alarm is very efficiant and prevents hackers. Having used Comodo's antivirus & firewall before, I suggest one stay away from it. Comodo has a lot to improve on.... it produces a lot of false positives.

i don't think any firewall is easier on resources than kerio 2.1.5
that may be the version that you're considering. i use it, and i'm somewhat a newbie. i was paranoid about a hacker at first. this turned out not to be the case at all. there was nothing wrong. it's been months later, and it has been pleasantly boring.

Try Look'n Stop, it's very light firewall and easy to use.

I may be mistaken but I do not believe that it is free.

Yes it's free, you have trial period of 30 days, after that some functions will be terminated, but for the ordinary user it is more than enough.

Comodo has a lifetime free license, no restrictions

Zone alarm is a very effective firewall and it has really worked out for me.The proffesional version contains some extra functions as multi layer protection, and stops malware from penetrating the system.you can also upgrade it to a Zone alarm security suite(also not free) where you have a pack of security features, along with its new antivirus, which is very active when in pack with the firewall, but alone not efficient
correct me if im wrong somewhere
