first off i just installed vista ultimate, turns out my bios wasent compatible with it so i thought i would go back to xp. but unfortunatly ive got a barebone system that only supports one hardrive. so i thought of some stupid idea of stealing another computers ribbon that has a master connector and secondary connector for the hardrive. plugged in my original hardrive to the master, and before pluging in another to the second ,(so i could reformat mine to go back to xp) i tried it out.
it booted, all normal sounds, came up to the screen where it says your motherboard manufacturer and if your dvd/cd drive are working(primary and secondary). then the screen goes blank.
switched the wires back to the originals, same result.

everything was working fine before this, just messed up after i swiched the wires.

also wiped my old hardrive, put it in my comp ran an xp cd (that i know works), got to the blue screen with window setup at the top and everything stopped working there.

so its not a hardrive prob

motherboard mabye?

any ideas?

thanks to anyone who accually takes the time to read this.
