Hi Guys,
I have not done this very often, but could you tell me if I actually need to reinstall my whole system, when I install a New processor. Thank you.
nigglesnush85
Hello,

You shouldn't have to. I have replaced processors on numerous PCs and laptops, never had to reinstall anything.

If anything goes wrong, just put the old one back in.

Hope this helps

I agree, Luckyjfl -

especially if you replace it with the exact same processor.

However, it is possible that a specific different processor might require a BIOS upgrade to the board, for example.

It would help if you told us what systemboard you have, and what processor you have and what processor you want to install as a replacement.

You are quite right, Johnwho, I should have given you a bit more info.

I am using a Retail Boxed Asus K8V SE Deluxe Socket 754 Motherboard and an AMD processor 2800+. I am installing a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0GHz 64bit 512k Cache Socket 754 OEM .
Windows XP Home
1and a hlf gig RAM.
200 Gig HD
FX6800 Graphics card

Hope this is bit better info, Guys.

if you do need an update for that system board,

You just have to select the appropriate info for your board.
