I am looking for a solution to a problem. I need some sort of software that will allow 5 people sitting on 5 computers (that are all networked in a P2P network) to send messages to each other. And not just instant messaging, but rather they want to use this software instead of sticky notes. So, if someone answers the phone on one end of the building, they can take a message and somehow just send it to another worker's computer through their network, and not have to walk to that person's office and put a sticky note on thier desk.

Any ideas?

I don't know if you'll be able to find software specifically for that kind of thing, since the functions you're describing are usually handled through email or groupware.

If you are willing to pay for it, Albert, then office Logic will do that, unless I'm not understanding you.

For the "old-timers" on the board, Office Logic is the current iteration of what many may remember as "Right Hand Man" in DOS.

(Disclaimer - I do not work for the Office Logic folks.)

Maybe have a look at using the netsend function. This is used to send network messages accross a network to other machines. You will need to know the names of the machines or IP addresses for this to work. Also it uses the messenger service so this will need to be running on the machines.

Here is a link on the functionallity.

Thanks for the info. Google-ing "Groupware' I found this gem:

I am running the trial version, but it allows communication through MS Office, allowing setting others schedules in Calender, and also allowing adding tasks to another's Tasks in Office. About $100 per computer. I am still trying to figure out if you can leave Notes on another's computer.

AF here is a NetSend utility that has a GUI interface. It is freeware.

There is LanTalk that is $18 USD\EURO per computer.
