I am noticing a few applications that I use are requiring .Net Framework 2.0 so I might as well upgrade. Right now I'm using 1.1 with the service pack and a few hotfixes so I want to uninstall all those and upgrade but want to make sure I'm doing it the right way.

How do I go about completely uninstalling 1.1?

Also, what service packs / hotfixes should I download for 2.0?

You should be able to uninstall it from the Add or Remove Programs control panel.

Grinler is right, you should be able to uninstall the 1.1 version from the add and remove programs in the control panel.

You should have all of the latest updates, specially critical ones before installing version 2.0.

You can download .net framework version 2.0 from Microsoft HERE. Read the instructions and the "IMPORTANT" notice just below the instructions.

I'm asking because I do have apps that depend on 1.1. I was under the impression that 2.0 is backwards compatible.

I just checked Add/Remove... in Control Panel on my new machine and have v1.1 (with hotfix), v2, and v3. I have not installed these deliberately so it may pay to check if it is a good thing to delete earlier versions.

All newer versions of Net framework should be backwards compatible.

Norton Ghost V10 needs Ver 1.1. Version 2 will NOT work with Norton Ghost.
I don't know if there are other programs out there that require an old version of Net Framework.

.Net framework is backward compatible.
It is also possible to have more than one version of the framework installed at the same time.So, if you wish you can choose to have the older version of the framework along with the newer one.
