So... Anyone play guitar...i got mine about a year ago, and i started getting lessons about 6 months ago. i lost interest when my sister started up, because....well, i dont like her..but i became interested again because she doesnt play clean or read rythym..... so anyone know any good song for me to play?

Some bands i like are Queensryche, van halen, judas, priest, iron maiden, rush, and then some couple others if that helps

Here's a good song, it's called:

When Brothers & Sisters Play

It's about a brother and a sister putting their musical creativity together and coming up with something that is very special to both of them. Something they can both be proud of.

Stop bickering with your sister, and create music with her. She may be able to teach you a few things, and you do the same for, and with her. wink.gif
EddieT.H.
.. is it an actual song? and if so, by who?
she uses my equipment without asking...so annoying and how can i create music?
im sorry..but she cant teach me anything...because i know everything she does.
she is also impossible to work with...... she wont let me touch her guitar... and everytime i turn on my amp she goes into my room and pull the power plug and then complains to my dad..... i did try to teach her before..2 power chords and she said shut up...annoying myspace addict.........

May I inquire what age you are? Think there is more going on here than just guitar playing issues..
Don't want to sound like Dr.Phil but did you ever considered the concept of talking to her?

You mean to tell me that you never heard of it before?.. I forget the name of the group, but it's a nice song.

You and your sister are battling over the wrong things. Actually, you shouldn't battle at all. If you are both teenagers and over, then it's time to stop the pettiness (petty-ness). If you are around her age, you don't know more than she does, you just know different things than she does. That's all.

It sounds like you and her should put all of the differences aside, and work together as a family, and make something of it, with the music. And if you think you're Top Cheese, and it's your way or the highway, then you're going to have many issues dealing with not only with your sister, but with others. You're going to need her one day. I'd bet you on that one.

Love her, and work with her. That's your blood. And if you think you're all that with playing the guitar, and you're so musically inclined,,, just think how much better it would be if you had your sister right there, by your side...... all the way to the end?.......

Now that's how you make your guitar sing. thumbup2.gif

blink.gif I'm sorry your havin a tough time with your sister mate smile.gif . Don't worry, i'm sure things will change as time goes by thumbup2.gif

ultimate-guitar is about the best site to get tabs to any song you want.

What i'm told is that Staind's "It's Been Awhile" is a very good song for beginner's to learn (supposedly it helps learn power chords and other techniques---just what Im told by people who play 6-strings)

personally some of the first songs I leared on bass were orgy's cover of "Blue monday" and Godsmack's " Straight out of line"

mmm, marked red, what does that mean, unsuitable? well if thats the case then i do apologise EddieT.H., thats annoying. I can't offer you any advice about that other than stay away until you are 100% certain its safe!

If its any help, the search words i used when i came across it was: "guitar tabs" / "guitar tablature". What i originally went to was called "olga" (on-line guitar archive), they've got LOADS but they had a sign up saying they were "currently off-line while they attempt to resolve legal issues" which i am sure they will, they've been around for years. This is why i went searching somewhere else, because they were unavailable. I am sorry about that.

ha ha, excellent find with that vid! thumbup2.gif That most certainly IS house of the rising sun! What a great performance! ha ha smile.gif .

GOOD LUCK on your quest and i'll keep my eyes peeled also and get back to you if i find anything thumbup.gif

Yes that is "House of the Rising Sun"

Is Ultimate guitar.com safe?? to the best of my knowledge it is I've been a member there for at least 2 years and been using it for close to 5 years no issues (just a couple of bad tabs-user supplied)

Timing is rhythm (no classical training here)

I checked the Ultimate Guitar site and my PeerGuardian 2 didn't block their ip address, and at the same time, I use Firefox, with the addon called NoScript.

The site seems perfectly safe to me. Just don't be using IE. hysterical.gif

It just seems a strange concept not knowing a rhythem by heart, mind you actually, i'm startin to get it now i think, cause i had some tricky rapping that i had to make a riff for, and rapping and guitar playing was quite a challenge cause i had to beat match and all that, is that the sort of thing you mean?

Anyways, looks like you guys know what your on about, i thought the red thing might mean the sight was secretly naughty or something and EddieT.H.'s comp had caught it hysterical.gif ahhhh, i'm so clever i sometimes outwit myself! laugh.gif

I'm a member at UG, for almost 1 year now, and about 2-3 years been using it, so far no problem.

i think it's safe... but, hey, if you wanna learn guitar, there are loads of sites you can go to.
EddieT.H.
I will be using UG then,SiteAdvisor makes so many mistakes...i rember they marked Pink floyd's site red and logitech's site yellow before..
Anyways..is getting classically trained better or timing is?
boopme
I play piano but my nephew who is self taught on Guitar says ALL Chords was very useful. I enjoyed learning music and theory as it applies to all instruments. I looked at it and can see why. A lot of useful info .. I like the composer

I'd say both! The thing about music is that the more you can practice and enjoy the better you get, so its good to take any opportunity to help yourself improve.

In my experience, i was classically trained to play a few instruments from a child, this has given me the knowledge and understanding of music that has equipped me to be able to pick up virtually any instrument and create a musical verse out of it. However, there are some people i know who are classically trained, but are COMPLETELY unable to improvise because they are unable to let go of all the musical rules they have been taught. On the other hand, i know some people who can endlessly make up interesting and creative sounds and songs, but are unable to play with other people because they do not understand how to fit their songs and ideas with other peoples. I think its good and perfectly possible to get a balance of these two elements if you take whatever opportunity you can. No harm in trying thumbup.gif .

I have left you a few links of one of my many idols Victor Wooton. Although he is a bassist, the things that he says can apply to any musical topic. The first two are snippets of advice that i feel you might find useful and the third is a video of Victor Wooton playing bass so that you can see how his attitude towards music has helped him along the way. You dont have to take what he says word for word, just the things that you feel can work for you thumbup2.gif .

In this video he draws the comparrison between learning an instrument and learning to talk, the things he says make very good points about how to prioritize the things that you need to learn and understand in order to advance your musical capabilities. smile.gif

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIcG40qLX_o

This second link is Victor Wooton again talking about how to approach learning your instrument and practicing on it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c65s16p1WY4

And here is an example of how his techniques of learning have made him one of the greatest bass players today...GENIUS!!! thumbup.gif

Woah... that victor Wooten guy is smart..i never thought about playing music as the same as talking and praticing.....interesting...Thanks for the link nn23 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/:thumbsup:

well, actually, both being classically trained, and timing is important. Guitarists uses metronome to train their timing, while at the same time, might be practicing some scales, to improve their techniques.
Anyway, which one are you into? classical or acoustic?

I haven't clicked the link tho, will click soon... =P
EddieT.H.
Electric? i have an electric and you asked if i ahve a classical or acoustic...so im not sure which one i would say of the choices you gave me tongue.gif
KIDRoach
lol

I thought you were playing either acoustic or classical, since you asked whether you need to learn about being classically trained. If you're playing electric, it depends how long have you played actually.

As for me, i am trying very hard to learn music theory now, and i just can't get it into my head. Argh! Anyway, again, it depends on how long you've played. For starters, you should just find your favourite songs, and try to play along, if no one is teaching you, and you are learning on your own, then go to the internet, find some tabs on that particular songs, and try to play along with the songs. If you are unfamiliar with the chords on the songs, try to find how the chords look like, or better, find easier songs. Once you are familiar with some chords, you should try to move on and learn some scales and barre chords, after that, you should be pretty good on your own.

Just my .02 =)

btw, try going to the UG there and read the forums, there are quite a lot of good stuff worth reading there, lots of useless stuff too tho...
EddieT.H.
i have a teacher...and all the stuf you told me to do, i know. but i feel im stuck because i donot know what to learn/ or practice
