I am running windows 98se. I have two logins. The default login and one named login. Right before the login screen comes up during startup I get the following error message:
A fatal exception 00 has occurred at 0028:C023D8C7 in VXD VDD(09)+
00001803. The current application will be terminated.
* press any key to terminate
* press ctrl+alt+delete again to restart your computer.

I started getting this message after I unistalled and reinstalled the game Red Alert 2. I uninstalled and reinstalled a second time but I'm still getting the same error message. When I login with the named login I only receive the error message the one time right before login. But on my default login I continually receive the error message, I cannot run IE or even close down norton system doctor without receiving a error message. I believe these error messages use different numbers though like VXD VDD(01) and VXD VDD(03).
I have run norton anti virus, no viruses found. I have run ad aware, nothing found out of the ordinary cookies it usually alerts to. I have run norton utilities win doctor, it does not find any errors while checking VXD sections.
One more quick question I had was if anyone knows what happened to the thetechstop forum, they used to be the thetechguys.

I extracted and replaced all the mentioned vxd files. I still am getting the error message. I also tried running the program from link 2 but I still get the same error message.

Check Device Manager for video errors. You may need to remove the video card in Device Manager then reboot and reinstall the drivers.

Go to Statrt > Run and type dxdiag the press <Enter>. Run the tests to see if there are problems with your video card or DirectX.

I had a similar error message when I started up a few days ago. I started up in Safe Mode and used Uninstall Manager to put back the last System.dat and User.dat. Restarted, which the same error. I normally save 14 reg backups (rb000.cab) so I decided to do a scanreg /restore to a previous date. Even though I have 14 cab files it only shows up 6. I chose an earlier date and restarted. It started up no problem. thumbup2.gif

In all the years I've had this computer I've never seen this error message once.

I ran dxdiag and it said there were no problems with the display driver. I went ahead and unistalled and reinstalled my video card drivers anyways. Now the error message is gone on both logins. I ran into one problem, I am able to uninstall Nvidia Windows 95/98*Grinler Display Drivers from the add/remove programs, but I'm not able to unistall the Nvidia Display Driver, it gives me this error message:
NVUDISP caused an invalid page fault in
module NVUDISP.EXE at 0177:00401831.

I tried to uninstall it even in safe mode but get the same error message. Should I be worried about this driver file? I don't seem to have any problems now, all the vxd errors messages are gone now.

If you are receiving no errors and your graphics look right you should be fine.

Ok thanks for the help. I should have tried unistalling the video card first but I thought with the vxd error it was on the windows side.
