Full Version: Strange Mvh.exe Error (post Worm Removal)

After removing the fagnal32 worm accorign to instructions on the web and having run AVG 7.5 to scan and delete the files, I get eh following mesage when I search for a file on XP.

"Windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\MVH.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctl, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.

When I report the error and click the link to see what Microsoft recommends, they claim the problem is stemming from my nero program. It recommends I update the nero software.

Does this make any sense? What should I do?

Thank you kindly,

The mvh.exe file was part of the worm that you removed. But there is probably still an entry in your registry that is trying to load the file, which is why you are getting the error message.

From what you describe, the file is probably an orphaned startup entry. Windows is trying to load this file but cannot locate it. The file may have been removed but there is still a registry entry that is telling Windows to load it when you start up.

When Windows loads, it looks for any files associated with registry entries for programs that are set to run at startup. If the file was removed but not the entry, Windows will display an error message indicating that the file was not found. You need to remove this registry entry so Windows stops searching for the program when it loads. To resolve this download and run Autoruns, search for the related entry and then delete it.
