Full Version: Please Help Me! Downloading Taking Ages! Why?

Hi anyone who can help

I have bought a brnd new laptop with dual core processor etc, and its taking a couple of days, yes 48 hours, to download one movie file off movie downloads.com.

I dont know why as i am on broadband and my internet provider is useless so please help me as i dont understand why its taking so long.

please please, i'm going mad!

Try going here and posting the speedtest results. I hope when you open it it'll give you UK as it gives me New York which is where I am.

Welcome to BC SelinaLee. It could be that your dns cache is full. This happens when you are downloading frequently. Please do the following :

Please rund any of the above speedtest than :

START RUN type
CODE
ipconfig /flushdns
(copy paste this) Reboot and try the speedtest again.

also try this :

Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:

* Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
* Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
* Under Browsing History, click "Delete".
* Click "Delete Files", "Delete cookies" and "Delete history"
* Click Close below.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):

* Go to Tools > Options.
* Click Privacy in the menu..
* Click the Clear now button below.. A new window will popup what to clear.
* Select all and click the Clear button again.
* Click OK to close the Options window

* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

* Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
* Let it scan your system for files to remove.
* Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
* Press OK to remove them.


Also post which safety software you are using such as antivirus and firewall
