Howdy,

I have seen posts in the past where it has been mentioned that it is a good idea to delete temporary internet files every so often. (speeds up performance)

Is this how it is done ?

If I use this option will I lose all my passwords for the web sites that I visit often ?

Will I lose the required cookies for those web sites ?

Thank You for your time.

I like to use CCleaner to delete temp files. It has options so that you can specify to keep certain cookies and also to keep the Autocomplete form history.

Thanks for the reply Budapest.

Are there any hidden dangers that a novice user should be aware of when using that program ?

Yes, unless you know what you are doing only use the cleaner option and stay away from the issues button which cleans up your registry.

EDIT : SORRY Budapest I Hijacked your thread whistling.gif

To answer your first question....No that has nothing to do with deleting anything. It only changes your home page.

I agree about ccleaner and also suggest disk cleaner.
You can choose what type of things to delete.
Stay on the safe side at first and delete only temp files.

Thanks for the information.

I was looking under the browsing history option not the create home page option.. It says it will delete temporary files among other things.

I avoid registry cleaners like the plague.
Use Window's Disk Cleanup utility to delete temporary files.

All programs/Accessories/System tools/Disk cleanup.
Choose the drive letter you wish to clean up, then check Temporary Internet files (and any other of the categories).

John

Amazing Andrew
Indeed. I use Ccleaner for the file cleanup and startup controls. But I give the registry cleaner a wide berth.

**EDIT: But I do use the registrycleaner on machines with invasive programs that just won't completely die (i.e. AOL) but only sparingly.

A much safer "cleanup" tool written by one of the HJT Techs here, who happens to to have his own site as well, is ATF-Cleaner.

You can take a look and download it at this link.
