I downloaded Internet Explorer 7 a number of times and each time it would not display anything and locked up my computer (Dell). I had to do a system restore to bring back Internet Explorer 6, which works fine. Also, I cannot get Yahoo Messenger to login when I download it's latest version (8.1). I have to use an old version (7.0), but it is limited and does not have many of the options. It seems that my computer is rejecting these versions. Why? I am using Windows XP. Thanks for any help out there.

Did you restart after the installation?

Yes. I restarted each time. Then, I clicked on IE and it just had a blank page and locked my computer up which made me have to restart it again. My computer works normally with IE 6 and other older applications. I have cable modem.
