It wasn't all that long ago that, literally, women were legally recognised as 'people' here in Canada - and as such, had no legal rights - eep!

Would like everyone at some time today,to spare a thought for those Women in Countries where they are still Abused and treated as Second Class Citizens.

Yes, sadly it goes on in so, so many countries still - and even in our own, DSMT. Huge sigh.

When I read your words, "tip my hat", Cowboy, I had the most delightful memory come back to me. When I was very young I remember my Father explaining to my older brother the difference between women and ladies and proper behaviour- and then he shared a story that has stuck with me ever since.

Men always wore hats when I was a kid - and if a gentleman walked into a large public building he did not need to remove it. However, should he enter an elevator with a lady present, he must remove it immediately. However, apparently ,my Father once entered an elevator with two young women on it and removed his hat. They were swearing and he silently put his hat back on his head.

I don't feel 'old' but guess at age 58 I'm ancient to many here - gentle smile. But I easily remember when, as a single working woman, I had no difficulty getting a personal loan from a Bank. The moment I got married, believe it or not, I needed my husband's signature. And later our Credit Union would not let my name be on the mortgage - only my husband's.

And I remember when I first started driving city buses (1974), people were so unused to see a woman driving one, often they wouldn't board - and even more frequently, would board and then not-so-nicely rant about iif I was "home" where I "belonged raising a family, there would be more jobs available for their husbands, sons, brothers, etc" (And yes, 99% of the time, it was another woman saying this!).

And yes, in the midst of working with over 1,200 men and only 4 other young women, I was able to remain a lady - and still do a person's job - huge grin. The men got used to me (and literally never swore in front of me either), the company quit sweating bullets that I'd never survive the job (no power steering on the buses at that time), the instructors that had placed bets that I was too over-qualified and "too fragile" to last even 3 months lost their money - and even my mother starting speaking to me again.

I only wish all people, men and women alike, were treated with respect all over our world.

But what you and so many others must have gone through, i feel so lucky to live in a time where things are much more equal . I hope things improve in other places and i MUCHLY APPRECIATE all you Gents' lovely conciderations and flowers !

There is one thing though, i have only learnt actually FROM this post that there IS such a thing as a Woman's International Day...when and why (specifics cause general reasons are obvious) did it first start? anyone got a summery or link for me to find out?.....ha ha ha, actually i just thought...why dont I do a search? he he, ok off i go NICE ONE!

It was a socialist based movement.

Suspect I may have a different take on 'socialism' perhaps - but no matter what it's thought of, isn't it lovely that it finally exists. Gentle smile.
