OK, this is actually happening on my friends computer.

He goes online and each time he is suddenly bombarded with popups. He has run Nortons Antivirus and it found a few. Ran AVG, it found a few. Ran Mr. Cleaner and it found some things other did not find. Computer is still full of spyware/popups.

Here is the interesting part. He has a phone splitter plugged into his phone jack with the cordless phone plugged into one side and the DSL filter/line plugged into the other side. Shouldn't make any difference right? Unknown to him, the circuit breaker tripped that powers the cordless phone the other day. During this time he was online and he said he DID NOT notice any popups showing up. He thought maybe things were back to normal. Severl hours later he went to use the cordless phone and noticed it did not work so he checked things out and found out that the circuit breaker was tripped to the outlet powering the phone.

He reset the circuit breaker for the phone. A few minutes later he needed to go online for something and here he was flooded with popups again! I've never heard of such nonsense..........Phone off.....No adware/popups................Phone On...............Bombarded.

I'm going to get his computer and try to do an "exorcism" on this thing. What would be a good recommendation to start with?

Are the popups for virus and security removal tools? Are they telling you you're infected or casino type things.
In this forum Spyware and Malware Removal Guides and Reading Room you can click on say the first one "Spydawn fix" and see if they look similar. If so you an follow the removal instructions.
Or post back the specific popups and we can direct you as to What you'll need to do...

Welcome to BC As first step he could Download and scan with SUPERAntiSypware Free for Home Users

* Double-click SUPERAntiSypware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
* An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
* If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Udates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here.)
* When done, select "Scan for Harmful Software".
* There are three scanning options. Choose "Perform Complete Scan" and click "Next".
* When done, a Scan Summary will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
* Make sure they all have a checkmark next to them and click "Next".
* A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
* Click Preferences and then click the statistics/logs tab.
* Click the dated log and press View log. A text file will appear so you can see the results.
* Select close to exit the program.
* Scan in SAFE MODE

Well I gave my buddy the specific instructions on how to run the programs you all suggested on his computer. His first report to me was, "Nope, did'nt work. Still got all those popups". Come to find out he had a temporary case of he "dumb ass" and ran Super Antispyware WITHOUT being in the safe mode. I told him to make damn sure he was in the safe mode and try running this program.

It discovered and removed all sorts of stuff. Bottom line......................No more popups/adware/spyware.

I appreciate all the help from you guys and without saying I know he does too.
