i have one single 160 GB SATA II hard disk which is partitoned as follows

XP D:

Vista C:

Music e:

Video f:

MYDOC g:

I used complete PC back up to image my system partition only(c: and d:) NOT the other partition

i was asked to select the partiton that will be included in the image backup.

C: n D: these 2 system partition was already included by default and i DID NOT select other partitons (except C n D i have 3 more partiton as u can c above)

so thus i have created the image in .VHD format and put the IMAGE in>> MYDOC g: partiton

and yes im aware of primary HDD failure (as i have only one)

BUT my QUESTION IS if i restore using this image that i hav created (image dat has only C and D partiton)

will it format my other partitions (E,F,G)???????????

On the final page of the REstore wizard, I can select the Format and repartition disks checkbox

so if i select this option (Format and repartition disks) will this format only C and D partition or the other partition as well??????????????????????

thanx in advance

It will erase/reformat/repartition those partitions that you are restoring.

@Grinler

that means my other partitions (partitions dat are not in the image E,F,G) will remain untouched????????????????

I am almost positive it does mean this. If you want to wait, I can test this tonight for you.

well plsssss go ahead n give it a try it'll be a great help 4 me....

eagerly waiting to hear the result.....

remember: restoring 1 or 2 partition has any effect on OTHER PARTITIONS or not is my concern.( single HDD)

I am going to save a backup of my C: drive on my e: drive.

After the backup I am going to create a file called "createafter.txt".

THen I will restore the backup. If the test works, which I am sure it will, the C: drive should be erased and restored. When I check both drives for the createafter.txt file, it should only be found on the E: drive as it was not erased.

Will tell you how it goes.

Just tested. Did a restore of C:, with full reformat and a partitioning. My e:\ drive was left untouched. So it does not affect any partitions other than the ones you are restoring.
