Hi, i thought this might be a nice idea for a Topic so whether its that last clue for 10 across in last years crossword book orrr any item you have always wanted but either cant find or afford...or even your SECRET DESIRES TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!! MWAHA HA HA HAHHAhahahahahahaaaaa devil.gif

You could leave a bit of a description of whatever it is and why it is of interest to you. I think it will make an interesting read smile.gif

I would like to take away all weapons, from all..... foreign and domestic.

I've always wanted to visit the republic of Tuva. Its somewhere Russia and Mongolia. I am very interested in the whole culture and was drawn in when i heard some Tuvan throatsinging on an album i had by a band called Bela Fleck and the Fleck Tones where a Tuvan performer called Congar Ol Ondar who is a superstar in that region jammed with the band....heres a clip of the very song, theres only a bit of throatsinging at the beginning and the middle but its a lovely example of this phenomena.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmFF83uHibQ

Aswell as the flecktones it is a place that has attracted the attentions of a number of people i am interested in including the physicist John Freynmen whos attention was first drawn by some stamps but later made a hobby out of their culture and the study of throatsinging and also Frank Zapper who drew inspiration and used throatsinging on some of his albums i think like possibly Bongo Fury, but i cant be sure...certainly his work with Captain Beefheart featured it in some way. I really would like to see and experience the Tuvan Shamanistic/Buddhist culture that has many interesting traditions.

People tie prayer rags to trees.

This is a nice little story smile.gif
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt...VFA:en%26sa%3DN

Many people live off the land in yurts in Tuva. This area is where this style of home comes from.

Wow, i've been on a bit of a moyd with this one, but it is something i do plan to do when i have more time thumbup2.gif .

I've been on a beach, but not by the ocean, rather by Lake Michigan. I've never seen an ocean at all, except in pictures or on T.V. I want to see the ocean, and dolphins in the wild, and whales, and sea birds, and sea otters, and penguins . . .

OB that makes me feel sad.I wish I could sit you in the chair in my avatar. The ocean is a beautiful thing I go there as often as I can. Sorry DSTM I don't find it boring, tho I think I know what you mean. I swim, sail, fish, snorkel, bbq, hike and even been boatwrecked a couple times. I just enjoy the smell, sound and the peacefulness it brings. I must have walked hundreds of miles of beach. I can sit all nite and talk and hang next too it. I don't know,I've spent so much time there alone or with friends and family ( my wife loves it too). Sometimes we can just watch the weather coming in or spot ships on the horizon. Then there's the sun/moon sets and rises and the stars ... I guess you see I'm a bit passionate about it. I even invaded from the ocean..but thats another story and tho the situation wasn't for fun... I did enjoy the swim laugh.gif

Hi Boopme,Are you a speed reader or something.Evidently you didn't read the 2 lines very carefully.
The first line is saying exactly what your saying, without going into detail.
Anywhere near land fall which includes beaches and all the sports you describe is tops IMO.
As far as being out on the Ocean, with dirty dark seawater for as far as the eye can see is B.A.B.S.

The ocean is great. Calming and refreshing.

All the salt in the water makes it sticky.
And jellyfish are NOOO fun. I got hit twice on the same day.

I have always wanted to fly in a small plane. Maybe do a few barrel rolls and dives. Or just fly. Oh and I wouldnt mind riding in a NASCAR just to see how it feels to move at almost and sometimes over 200mph. I dont like nascar just know they go fast.
Orange Blossom
There is something so mesmerizing about water. I love to hear the sound of the waves and the gulls crying in the wind. Yes, Lake Michigan has gulls. I haven't been there for a few years now that I live in southern Indiana, but at least it is closer to get to than the ocean.

I bet the smell of the ocean is different from a lake, and perhaps the shape of the waves. I think it would be so neat to see the tide come in and go out. I've always wondered whether the Atlantic Ocean looks or feels different than the Pacific Ocean, and how each differs from Lake Michigan.

WOW thats sooo beautifully put OB smile.gif ....My dad used to take us oout sailing in his westerly when i was little but it was horrific ha ha ha, but i do have a kind of affilliation theres something quite tranqual about being surrounded by water with no land for miles m hm

And cowsgonemadd3 your ideas are WILD!!! laugh.gif i liiike, i've always thought it might be nice to go in a glider, or even hang gliding, feel like a sawing bird smile.gif

We dont have NASCAR racing over here, or if we do it isnt very public! i do know what it is though and would LOVE to just go to an event actually. NICE ONE!!! laugh.gif

WOW that looks AMAZING DSTM, you'd need a long holiday to explore the castle ASWELL as the beautiful scenery. I woulnt be able to resist going on ghost hunts and so on he he.

It reminds me of a place i'd really like to go back to in Poland, we once stayed in the renovated hunting lodge of a Palace owned by very distant relatives infact perhaps not even blood but in Poland it doesnt matter, if your family, your family.

Dont get me wrong, the palace is more of a ruin and when we went there some 17 years ago it was in such a state that i wouldnt be surprised if it had danger signs and fences around it now. But it was LOVELY when the ancient mote filled up in the summer, it was SO deep, lovely to swim in, yeah i'd REALLY like to go back there.

hmm, i shall enquire and see if i can find a link to edit in, i'd like to find out myself if it is still around but i have no idea if it was a landmark or not for we were not visiting out of interlectual interest.

But that castle of yours looks simply GRAND! really magical, i can see where Walt Disney got his ideas from, wonder if he ever stayed there smile.gif

WOW NICE ONE! i havnt thought of that for years!! thumbup.gif

No (laughing) more a speed writer. Sometimes I try to respond in between the rest of the things going on around me. That is what I meant by "I think I know what you mean." You see the beauty and the possible misery. I've been in that mess. But all in all I love it.

The ocean is definitely mesmerizing, relaxing and enjoyable. The ocean smells much different than a lake, probably the salt. I've been in (swam) 6 oceans/seas. The Pacific seems to have bigger waves than the Atlantic and So. China Sea. Which in turn were bigger than the waves I've seen in the Mediterranean,Indian Ocean nd Caribbean Sea. The isles of the caribe are for the most part protected by coral reefs that break up the waves further out. Which by the way gives Bermuda it's pink sand. It's all washed in off the pink coral, very beautiful.

Edit: forgot the image

I'd like to leap from a plane just one more time. Hop in our car and drive the entire 5,500+ miles across Canada, stopping anywhere and everywhere and taking 'forever' if necessary. And return one more time to Scotland - can't really explain it but somehow it's almost as if I can 'feel' my ancestors standing at the loch and living in the hills.

Do agree that where ocean meets land is often an incredible sight, especially during a wicked storm. Used to live about 60 feet from the ocean and when a storm ended would have to literally hose down that side of the house because it was encrusted with salt as it dried. Could walk down to the rickety pier and cast a line in, scoop up oysters (learning along the way that if one cuts themself while shucking them, you're going to have an ouchie for a long, long time) and literally watch the huge, graceful whales. (The draw back to this was I had to live in a place called 'Blubber Bay' on an Island - used to just leave off my return address on envelopes - smile.gif ).
nn23
WOW thats beautiful boopme, you've given me something else to put on my to do list thumbup.gif

And Maram i TOTALLY understand what your talking about, there are some places you go to where you just feel like your home. I live hundreds of miles away from my blood relatives but from the very first day i set foot in Bangor 9 years ago i knew my home was near and whenever i take the bus over to anglesey i know i am close to my heart. smile.gif . I lived there for 4 years and now have a home in Bangor.

I am lucky, i have both beautiful beaches (and some horrible smelly ones with wrotting muscles its just cringe worthy when i see Nugget picking at them but these also are a great place for observation, i like to go down and watch the herons in the evening) and mountains aswell with plenty of deep turquouise lakes from the color of the slate smile.gif . Although, the weather aint always pretty. I think New Zealand might be my next haunt smile.gif ooo, thats another to do list item laugh.gif

Yup, Texada Island - smile.gif . Don't know what they have for a ferry now but we had a 5 car one - 2 loaded side by side on each 'end' of the loading area and a poor sole one straight across - eep! Made for some interesting trips back and forth when they weather wasn't wonderful (did the grocery shopping on the mainland) - but in all honestly, the entire island was beautiful and I loved living there.
Animal
Mara,

A little trip down memory lane for you here. As you can see from the photo of the ferry on that front page they grew up to be "big" ferries. wink.gif

I want to get in my car and drive and drive and drive.

Sweet topic nn23!

I want to travel and see my country. Listen to music loud and sing loud too! Sometimes when I get out of work and I get behind the wheel of my car I just want to keep driving.

Hmm what else would I like to do? I want to sail too! I live in a port town and I LOVE being by the river and the Lake. I like to spend time by the water. I wish I had my own sailboat or better yet even live on a houseboat. That would be so cool.
Wildabeast
I would like to take my wife to most of the places I went while in the Navy. Then I would like to take her to Washington D.C. where she has always wanted to go.

And you sea lovers...... the beach is one thing, the endless ocean is another. My buddy took a whole roll of film while we were at sea once and showed to his family when he went home on leave. They looked at about 1/2 of the pics and remarked about all there is, is water! He said yup, that's what I see most every day for 6 months.. hysterical.gif

EDIT... I would also like to win the powerball blink.gif

Wow! You're right, they 'grew up'!! Bet they don't have the 'pot-bellied' black stove in the middle of the 'waiting room', though - nor that great sense of comaradarie amoung the islanders huddled around it trying to keep warm and moaning about having to wash the salt water off their cars when they get home ... and how many less bags of groceries one could get for the $20 two week budget since prices were so high - hoot! Thanks, Animal, it was lovely taking this wee trip down 'memory lane'!

Yup. Driving is never something to be totally relaxed about. Split seconds can mean the difference between disaster and safety.

Driving for me is more difficult than for a lot of folks as I have to think about seeing. When I'm walking, I navigate using my auditory and sense of touch - in an extended sense; I can actually feel when someone enters my room for example - far more than I do my sight.

I really wish I didn't have to drive. It's exhausting for me.

Mhhm I guess distance is what draws us all. I lived at or nearby white beaches for 5 yrs and hardly went to em tongue.gif . Now I live in a port town and even "work" with ocean vessels, but dont often get to the harbour. I ve seen a lot in my short life and I am glad I had the chance.
There are many things I would want to do, but for now I guess seeing my friends in Australia, New Zealand and Tonga would be a great start (which would have to take place over 2 years or so since I only get 26 working days holidays a year hysterical.gif ).

Things to look out for in future:
# Scandinavia, right around the corner and never really been there.
# Asia
# Canada again, to see a bit more of it - same for America of which I didnt really get to see the real nice places.

I bet there s more, but I am at work and cant think of anything at moment.

Bush pilots in Alaska are much the same as bush pilots in most remote areas - and although things have improved vastly, originally they were the un-song heros of the north and other isolated areas. Without them, it was virtually impossible for many settlements to escape their isolation, receive medical attention, etc. And believe it or not, they used to fly with no detailed maps, no radio naviation, no weather reports and if they went down, they were pretty much 'toast' (as was everyone with them in the plane).

Actually, you're not so far off with your comparison with a northern version of 'Crocodile Dundee' - at least with the earlier bush pilots. Few 'rules' and people of true courage - and without fail, great mechanical ability ( no service places out in the wilderness nor room for any error).

Just a general 'tid-bit' ... the arctic does have polar bears, the antarctic does not - in fact, 'antarctic means literally 'no bears').

hysterical.gif thats MAAAD! (the bear thing smile.gif ) Coool, cheers MaraM, how incredible thankyou for filling me in with all that wonderful info! thumbup2.gif . My attention has never been brought to this aspect of living before. The settlements yes, but the bush pilot no. What an amazing peice of culture!!! laugh.gif and fairplay no one, thats a FANTASTIC aspiration you have there, can you fly?
MaraM
I used to, if you could call it that - huge grin! An incredibly wonderful bush pilot that obviously drank too much and was kinder than I deserved, decided that I should learn to fly his 'Goose' - 'just in case'. First lesson was when I flew through a cloud - and he hit me - hard!! And then calmly explained that one flys over, under or around but never, never through a cloud - eep!

Only got about 40 hours flying time in (and never solo) before I moved, but I still remember that dear grumpy man. (He died in a crash about a month after I moved, sadly).
nn23
WOW what a story!!! laugh.gif clapping.gif
Why cant you fly through clouds, is it because they are electrically charged or somit like that?

I dont think i could fly a plane, i dont like the idea of something that is not 100% within my control, depending upon my control (engines), what if it stops working...eep! as you say thumbup2.gif
Fairplay though MaraM thats SO cool, i wonder if its like learning to ride a bike?

I'd LOVE to get a hang glider though, saw like a bird...mmmm...LOVELY! smile.gif

flew with a friend in a 172 Skyhawk and it got "hazy" comming back plus we was flying into the sun,
spooked him alot more than it did me I think.( and he was the one with the license lmfao.gif )

Sounds like it was wonderful, flying into the sun or not! Yipee!! Glad you get these chances and I can surely drool over the choices in your 'wish' planes, too smile.gif .

I had given my promise that I would no longer fly nor leap out of planes until our girls were fully grown - and I kept that promise - gentle smile. And now that they are, although I sometimes still dream about it, the urge simply remains a dream. But how I hope yours comes true, really I do! (There is a type of magic in the sky that, for me at least, simply doesn't exist down here on earth).

And as for money, yes lessons are very expensive - but then again, maybe you can find one of those rare and nearly extinct 'originals' - Bush Pilots - who are more than happy to pass on their courage and skill at no charge (except for a few bottles of good whiskey) at no charge at all. smile.gif

Hay there Mara , wasn't you ever tempted to take lessons again ? and from what I was told it depends on what kinda clouds your wanting to go through , I'd like too but the prices are kinda steep ,then there is the whole "I want my own plane" thing . if I got serious about the bush thing I think I'd go the 185 Cessna route for starters, probably like

if not and just for "weekends" then (I need to win a lottery for this one)

That south pole storey is MAD! Fairplay! I was well impressed, thats so full-on doing somit like that without a compass or anything! w00t.gif

And I LOVED reading that peice of Don Sheldon's story, he sounds like a pretty cool guy. Its mad to think that reading it as a story it sounds so romantic, but all these tales are REAL! i can fully understand why you would aspire to it.

You certainly been checking it out....me thinks maybe you might find a way someday! hope you do!!! thumbup2.gif wink.gif

CHEERS for all of that stuff, you've inspired me, i think i might add a Don Sheldon auto biography to my reading list thumbup2.gif

NICE ONE no-one! nn23 thumbup.gif
