I am sitting here wondering a few things and thought I'd ask away since I value the opinions and expertise of my beloved BC family.

One - Who truly has the best popup-free toolbar?
Two - What is the actual problem with AIM that creates the havoc it wreaks?
Three - What is the best free av available?
Four - What are the most important programs ALL computers should have?
(I am big on Spybot, HJT, Adaware - but also Spysweeper) What say y'all?
Five - How necessary are the 8's and 9's on HJT logs?
Six - What is the "Advanced Searchbar"? Does it come with Google's Toolbar?

Okay, I'll leave y'all with those. I really appreciate everyone's input. I'm off to see mom and baby, who are scheduled to be released sometime today.
Thank you all very much!

Oh, and is it possible to remove items in msconfig that are associated with spyware and such or just things we never want to use that shouldn't have been there in the first place?

Another interesting bit of info. :

Garfield correctly wrote that AIM installs spyware on your PC. An article in James Healan's Spyware Weekly Newsletter reveals that AOL's regular internet software does this also.
What follows is rather lengthy, but Healan knows from whence he speaks; it's worth reading.

AOL force-installing spyware

Thanks Scarlett! I read the links you provided and am amazed that people still use AIM, still like it, and many claim that they've never had a problem with it. What gets me is the article said that even the AOL disks we are all bombarded with constantly also come with the spyware junk. I would love to hear why AOL conducts 'business' this way. And why are they #1? crazy.gif

Hopefully, someone can help with the other questions I have. I am ever curious.
