i have just purchased a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro laptop and it comes with the option to upgrade to Vista for free. It already has XP Pro installed which i am happy with as i am well used to XP. The problem i have is deciding whether to go for the upgrade or not. As the old saying goes "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", springs to mind, but i don't want to miss out if Vista is as good as it looks on the net. What is everyones general opinion on Vista? i also heard it is very demanding to run. My laptop is a 1.6Ghz intel centrino duo, 1Gb RAM and 128MB graphics (shared i think). would it even be up to the job? Another thing i was wondering was if i could send off for the VIsta software and install it on to my desktop instead? It is quite a decent spec but the version of XP that is on it is not genuine, which bugs me. Any replies would be grateful

Get the upgrade - it's free. You don't have to install it - but if you don't get it you'll never have the choice. It could probably handle it with the 128 mB of graphics.

You may be able to install it on your desktop - but this would be a violation of the EULA.

We bought a computer for my sister with that offer from Dell, but it isn't free (atleast for her computer I think it's $50 and it's only Home Basic, def. not worth it) I have Home Basic Vista on my computer but that's cuz I spent $150 for the upgrade

Hmmmmm... I got a Toshiba and the offer was completely free for me. Don't know why yours would be any different...

We bought a new Acer labtop last week and Vista Home Premium came with it. It struck me that most labtops I saw were 'Vista capable'.
