System

PII 450 Intel MB
512 Meg ram
30 Gig HD
ME O.S.

On boot the computer gives a disk I/O error press any key to continue. When you press any key the error message just repeats itself.

Ctrl, alt, del the comp restarts and the same error. Hard boot and the computer sometimes will retart.

I am trying to get the company to upgrade the system, BUT!!

Thanks.

1. Check for a floppy disk in drive.
2. If it isn't the floppy check BIOS boot order
3. If it isn't any of those I'd suspect that it could be a bad hard drive. Try starting the system up with some type of start up disk.

Let us know what happends

The simple thing would be to replace the BIOS (motherboard) battery. When the battery is bad it will not save the BIOS settings reliable.
The battery is about $4 and is located on the motherboard next to the processor.
In the image you can see the battery (labeled "M") in the picture of the motherboard.

Thanks for the suggestions.

We were getting this error and I replaced the HD (old was a WD 8 gig). I have also replaced the Bios battery.

No floppy disks, Cds, or other media is in the machine. Bios boot order is CD, HD 1, Floppy.

When I installed the new HD I ghosted the old drive to the new.

I am thinking the Windows ME load is ready to die.
