I have an iso image thats about 2.48GB and I am copying it into a DVD disc, however how can I determine if my CD-ROM runs DVD-R or +R ?

I assume you mean DVD-RW drive, and will sometimes say on the front and it might even do both. Read the manual or go the the manufacturers site.
