I am currently running 512mb of Corsair memory.I bought a 512mb stick of Geil memory and installed.I restarted my computer but it doesnt recognize the new stick.It still shows I only have 512mb installed.Any ideas?

did you make sure it was the right format? Either dual-channel or single channel. Dual-channel requires 2 of the same memory sticks in seperate slots.?

It may also be an incorrect speed for your mother board. Mother boards require certain types of memory (speed and type). If you purchased memory that is to slow or fast for your motherboard, then the computer won't recognize it or use it.

You can post your motherboard manufacturer and model number and we'll look into for you. Also, post the type and speed of your new memory you just bought (like DDR400/pc3200).

The first time that I added memory to a laptop I had the same issue. Turns out that I hadn't inserted the chip securely enough. <oops.gif>

With Desktops, compare the stick's position (and the clips that hold it in) to the other stick. It could be loose also. Also, in some systems it's critical to install the chips in the correct slots - is this the case with yours? You can find this out by reading the computer manual (or the motherboard manual if it's a custom build).
