It may also be an incorrect speed for your mother board. Mother boards require certain types of memory (speed and type). If you purchased memory that is to slow or fast for your motherboard, then the computer won't recognize it or use it.
You can post your motherboard manufacturer and model number and we'll look into for you. Also, post the type and speed of your new memory you just bought (like DDR400/pc3200).
