I've just installed an new printer on our network (2 computers).

It works fine from my machine but, although it is listed under Printers as the default on Control Panel on the other computer, I can't get it to print. mad.gif

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

How is the printer connected? Print server, or to a computer? What OS are the two computers? If connected to a computer, are the permissions set so the other computer are allowed to use it.
Try mapping a drive between the two computers. This will allow each computer to access the other.

OS on both machines is XP Home; got a wireless connection. Don't understand why it won't work with the new printer when it was OK with the old one. sad.gif

Hi Mary, just a couple of things first on the computer the printer is connected to, go,start, printers and faxs, then open the folder a check to see if it is shared, then right click the printer and then click on properties then sharing and make sure the printer share button is ticked. Now what is the share name for the printer? It must be the same on both computers. So go through the same steps on the second computer and see how you go.

Thanks for the suggestion but that's not the problem - they are set to share and the printer name is the same on both machines. mad.gif

It's really annoying because the when you select PRINT on the 'guest' machine it's the new printer that is set as the 'default printer'.

You can change the " Default printer" by right clicking on the printer you want to set as default and selecting "Set as Default".
To set a path to your printer go to My Network Places. In the Tool tab select Map a Network drive.. Select the drive on the remote computer that the printer is set on. Next go to My Computer and do the same.
If you are prompted for a user and password enter the user name of the profile on the remote computer that has access to the printer. Do not use Administrator. Use a limited access account to access the printer.
Example. If the remoter computer has an account call Mary1 then enter mary1 as the user name and that account's password. This will set your second computer to access the the printer on the first.
If you need to access the second computer from the first do the same to set it up.
