Idiots made it, THat's the only problem smile.gif

pre 1.5 Steam the game was pretty well made, Then they invented the engine and look where it is now smile.gif haha, I'm almost thinking an entire reinstall of everything might be necessary as it seems that everything you Have toss at him hasn't work, However that's just an outsider opinion, And well, reinstalling Windows for 1 game is kind of a PITA

I wanted to say maybe its an issue with ATI and CSS itself, But I dunno, I know that CS and DoD and all that arne't really built around either vid card GPU but I know that the heavily favored one is Nvidia, however an issue like this , Boggles me...
me_123
ok if you know what to do tell me cause im freaking out here! its so annoying!

your FINAL option, Not your next but your FINAL option is to completely wipe yoru drive and start clean, I say this is the final one in all caps because you don't want to do it too soon, and it'll cause you to lose everything, and the reason I suggest donig this is since steve has tried pretty much almost everything, It'll rule out any glitches in windows that are causing it or glitches in the drive, Id wait to see what he can come up with, and then go from there though,

You could try a repair of windows from the disc, but I doubt that'll fix anything
stevealmighty
This is a problem that a lot of people have had, and that I can't find any solid fixes for. Since I'm only researching things on the internet, and don't have this game/problem myself, my hands are somewhat tied.

Let me try to check a few more things and ask some other guru's around the forums if they know anything about this..... wacko.gif

resp u mean i should format my computer right? well i did that, twice.
i have no idea what causes this problem but im pretty sure its not windows cause i formatted my computer twice and i still got that error.
steve thanks for all your help and ill wait for ur advice
resp
if its not windows related and you do a full clean each time you have formatted then its probably GPU related or ATI related in its origins, That's beyond me though, gotta be something they put in their drivers that causes this *shrug*

When you reformatted your computer, did you actually wipe the drive using a program that removes (over-writes) everything on the drive, then reinstall the OS? If not, it could leave behind malware and other "baddies" that can wreak havoc on a computer.

You can try this, as it may (*MAY*) solve your problem: Download the omega drivers (most recent) from HERE. Now, uninstall the catalyst drivers that you have installed now. Restart your computer, and install the Omega drivers that you just downloaded. Restart your computer again, and try your game. Keep your fingers crossed! wink.gif
me_123
ok ill try that
by the way... i posted on the steam forums a post about my problem and i got NO answers or replies
im not gonna even try going there again cause it never helped me

Does it crash when you're only playing this game? Does it crash when you're playing other games too? Does it crash when you're just browsing the internet or using other (not games though) programs?

The omega drivers weren't a guaranteed fix....although I was hoping they would fix this issue.

Either way, forth and onward! wink.gif I'll do some more research and then get back to you. Keep patient, as this is frustrating me almost as much as it's frustrating you! sad.gif
me_123
i just have css so i cant tell u if it crashes with my other games
thanx again
stevealmighty
Does it crash at any other time? Any other time at all, besides when you're playing this game?
me_123
nop
just while im playing or loading maps or just in the main menu and its random too like i cant tell exactly when its gonna happan
stevealmighty
Alright me123, I'm flustered now! LOL!!! Everything that I find on it says that it's been brought to steams attention and that they're "working on a fix". I can't find any solid information on how to fix it, only lots of people complaining about the same error with all sorts of versions/mods of both HL2 and CS:S.

I did find this though...

i just deleted local content and reran it and it fixed everything by itself

(source)

I'm not sure how to do what this person is talking about though, sorry. If you know what he/she is talking about, you can try that fix if you like.

As far as I can tell, there's either an issue with Steam itself, or an issue with Steam/CS:S conflicting with anothe program that's running.

Do you run just the game itself, and nothing else in the background (like have other windows open including internet explorer)? Also, have you gone into MSCONFIG (Start>Run>type in "msconfig" without the quotes) and unchecked things that dont' need to start when windows starts (see here for help)? Have you done a few scans to ensure that your computer is free of malware and whatnot, like Adaware SE and Ewido for starters? Have you tried to disable your firewall (if applicable) during gameplay to see if that makes a difference?

Try the above, and let me know how you fare with it. If you still get the error, post back and please let me know. I'll try to see if anyone else has had better results with this issue that you're having! wink.gif
me_123
listen....
i cant even play for more then 10 minutes because it randomly crashes without info or i get the error box and its getting so annoying now and i dont know wat to do. i tired all the things u said all the time and a few times and i did wat ppl said to do in other forums too. i put up a thread in the steam css forums and they moved my post into a 90+ thread and i asked there if theres anything to do and they said wat u said exactly: steam is working on it. well i dunno wat to say

thanx anyways

I too am having this same problem, and went to stevealmighty's source that he gave for the "possible" fix to our problem. A few posts down I read this.

"My problem was a sound problem and it seemed to crash with a looping sound, it might different for other as me and my mrother have the same computer except for a few dofferences and his hl2.exe error wasn't to do with sound. The fix to my game crashing was either disabling my onboard sound and putting in my "USB Super Sound Card" which seemed to come out really easy. But after I had enabled my onboard sound and updated graphics, sound etc. (I didn't do everything). Any way I went into run and typed dxdiag, went to the sound tab and put the Hardware Sound Acceleration level down to nothing and then exited. However then my Team speak was all jittery, so I went to Options, Settings, Other and muckeed around with the Enable GameVoice Hardware Support and the process priority then after restarting Team Speak it was fine! Hadn't had any crashes since! But my problem turned out to be a sound related one. DON'T GO INTO THE BIOS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING! YOU COULD MAKE YOUR PC NOT COME ON!! I also wnet to steam right clicked on Counter Strike Source and put in -32bit not sure if that made a difference and I also deleted the datacache.dll from my steam folders it hasn't come back yet and the game runs fine! Havent' crashed since....... Hope to see you all playing Counter Strike Source soon. This probably works for all games in Steam but I haven't checked yet. Tell me if it works for you too!

P.S. If it works for any of you guys I'll try and post it on Steam Support!

Also if you go on other forums post this too! To help others!

Yours Sincerely,
Marler"

I'm going to try it and see if it works.
Aeosity
Didn't work. Had my hopes high for wanting it to work.
