Hi .. I recently read in a different forum that WEP encryption has been cracked. Is there any truth to this? And if so, do you recommend WPA encryption. (I'm talking about my wireless router if that helps).... Thanks you everyone..hope you all had a nice holiday..thanks.

The short answer is, "Yes." Any encryption can be cracked.

The "WPA" series are a bit more secure than the "WEP".
But professionals, given time and the right equiptment, have also cracked
even the newest of the WPA series.

I suggest you read this short piece at Window XP Home.

I neglected to include this item from Wikipedia.

Although a bit technical, it contains some history on the subject,
and reinforces security protocols for WiFi.

As Koan Yorel states, any encryption can be cracked. You're just making it harder on the hacker.

In addition, you can turn off your wireless router when you're not using it. This will deny access to everyone outside of the home when it's off - making you a much less visible target.
