I need to set up a network computer in my home office which enables me and another part-time employee to access files/programs, etc. while I am in the office and away. The part-time empoyee works from her home and needs access to files that we share. I am a novice at this but this is what I am thinking about setting up. Can someone tell me if I am thinking straight?

I want to build a peer-to-peer server inside my home which will allow me to connect to it with my laptop.

Can I give my off-site employee a RealVNC link for the server computer so that she may complete work for me and save her work to the hard drive on the server?

Also, can someone tell me if we can both access files off of the server at the same time, assuming she is working through the RealVNC link and I am in my home office or if both of us are trying to access the home server from outisise the office through a RealVNC connection?

Windows has a built in tool called Remote Desktop that will allow this. But, I find this to be a bit confusing.

I use the free version of LogMeIn ( http://www.logmein.com/ ) for this purpose. It's free and it's easy to use.

Or, you can use 3rd party tools like pcAnywhere.
