hello I just built a new system and when i boot it up everything runs and seems fine untill i try and install windows. It begins the initial steps but before it starts to install i get a blue screen. As of right now I cant remember what the error message is because im at home and my computer is at school. I took it to best buy and they did some tests on it and said i had a bad mobo and video card...so i return both and get new ones and put it together again and the same problem occurs again. So I take it back to best buy and they say well i guess its something else then(gee thanks for charging me 75 bucks to just tell me something else is wrong ). I have an intel pentium d 9 3.2ghz, intel D975XBXLKR mobo, ati radeon x1600pro 512mb video card, 2gigs of ram, Maxtor 160GB Serial ATA hard drive, dvd rw dl, apevia case with 500watt ps. Any ideas will help. Also i dont have another computer that i can exchange parts with to see what the problem is. Thanks

BestBuy has proprietary software that tests the system. The software has limitations because it's software (so it tests not only the hardware, but the "paths" that lead to it).

Have you installed the SATA drivers (if you have a SATA hard drive)? Generally, in the early stages of setup it will request the RAID/SCSI drivers - that's when the SATA drivers will need to be installed. Information on them should be in your motherboard's manual.

it never asked to install the drivers for the hard drive. Do you not have to install windows first?

At the bottom of one of the first 3 screens during the setup routine, the prompt will appear to press F6 to install RAID/SCSI drivers. This is the point where you insert the disk with SATA drivers (if needed).

How would i know if i need the driver?

Read the manual that came with your motherboard.
