Hi, I got an old CPU and hope to give it to a friend.
It has got no Hard disk for the moment (the old HDD actually crashed).
May I know, if I were to get a new HDD, what brand/model and size will it be compatible with?
The motherboard is ASUS CUV4X, Pentium 3 (866mghz)

I currently asked a retailer, but he told me that a new 80GB HDD might not be compatible.

Please advice, Thanks.

You should be able to use any IDE/PATA type hard drive.

Well actually I am not sure any will be compatible because I think that the bios will only reconize up to a certain size...

That is what the tech guy was probably trying to say... Basically you could get a 500 gig hardrive but the bios might only be able to reconize 60 gigs of it...

But they should be backwards compatible but you might not get the full capacity or transfer speeds...

Well actually the only limitation for the ASUS CUV4X is the fact that BIOS will not recognize a hdd larger than 137GB, it will still work, it just won't recognize the remainder of the hdd space. A simple solution to this is to make to partitions and split the capacity of the hdd.

Thanks for the reply, at least now I know I should get a HDD less than 137GB for this CUV4X mother board. smile.gif
*Btw, a 80GB HDD with 50-50% partition (C:/40GB D:/40GB) will be able to fit into this, right?*
Klinkaroo
The 80 gigs will fit as one partition.

You also like dc3 was saying you could get example a 160 gig hardrive and make two 80 gig partitions and you should be able to reconize it all.
