many games in this world should never have been made...in ur opinion, whats the worst game of all time?
Wildabeast
There have been so many! I can't remember the name of most of them, the one that comes to mind is Sphynx, I think that's how it's spelled. I found it very boring. Didn't even come close to finishing it. smashcomp.gif

kudos to a great thread..too often we argue over the BEST, but the absolute worst need to be recognized as well. In my book, the landmark achievements for the worst games are the ones that led you to believe they were great. Theres plenty of crappy games out there, but the WORST games are the ones that had you hooked, and then had a sequel that just absolutely blew. So my list is a mix of the biggest let-downs and the most over-rated flops of all time.

1) Socom 3 (Worlds Worst Let-Down), WWLD for short
2) Grand Theft Auto series(The Worlds Most Overrated Games.... Ever), WMOG...E..
3) MGS2....could we draw the story out and make it any more gay?...well;
4) MGS3....hey let's add MORE ridiculous sci-fi enemies and make the story MORE obscure and ridiculous!!!
5) FF8: Thats a given for any FF fan
6) JAK 2 & 3: Take a great game and make it a free-roaming kiddie version of GTA with the same stupid timed pizza delivery missions...Screw you Insomniac. Don't change a great formula, ...it works EVERY year for Ratchet and Clank.
7) ANY racing game.

I tried the 10 day free trial for world of warcraft and I really wasn't impressed, but I think thats because I had really crappy skills and only got to level 11. Well just games like that and runescape I love them, but they suck so bad when your new. You have to pretty much work in the games to have any fun eventually. I guess thats the key for why there fun, the idea that maybe you could be rich, powerful, and popular.
stevealmighty
Smurfs for the Atari 2600. There's no reason for the stupid smurf to die when they landed on a tuft of grass. Oh, and the silly little smurfs should've been able to jump further too.

More currently, I must admit that Fable for the xbox was a massive let down to me. I beat the entire game in 4hours (just doing the main quests, no side quests/adventures). The only good part about it was being evil and running around and killing everything in site. Other than that, I felt that the game was hyped up way to much and didn't live up to it's promises. sad.gif

Sims a complete waste of time. And Boring to boot.

I know there are loads out there that love this game but basically IMHO total rubbish.

MGS3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and my least favorite of all time is deffinetly Warcraft 3, purely because I suck at it. Other than the fact that I'm bad at it, it's a good game though. Also, this ATV racing game I used to have on PS2, sucked big time but I don't remember the name.

I don't know if it is absolutely the worse game of all time, but I nominate for one of the worst, Romancing SaGA (SquareEnix, which should have known better).

Worst game of all time that I have played is Medal Of Honor Underground.

Some one said FF8 sucked for any FF fan well I say that game rocked (and I love FF)

Star Trek: Fleet Command(er?). It looked neat (I saw some guys playing it at a lan) but in practice it was a huge let down. It's the game that finally stopped me from automatically buying games at full price; nowadays I wait until they have been out for a while and I can get them for 30 or so (often 'gold' editions, 30-40 w/ expansion included).

Though I know some folks will consider it blasphemy, I think the whole BF series sucks. No one works as a team, so you end up "lone wolfing" it...literally, when you spawn an hour's hike away from the action. Then by the time you get there, a tank runs you over and you start again. I tried the demo for BF 2, felt exactly the same. Then one of the guys I lan with said that the BF 2142 is boring...and I am thinking to myself, "Well, did you see the title on the box?"

Starcraft was also pretty lame. It got such a following, and it wasn't very good, IMO! Low population cap, you have to have all the resources required to make something BEFORE you start it. The 3 armies were very different, but each of them had only a mere handful of units compared to a true RTS great like Total Annihilation.

I would have to agree with the BF2 series, little to no team work. However, I can say that when my clan was active, we'd have 4-6 people in a squad, and would use teamspeak and run around simply owning the entire map! That's when the game was the most fun, easily one of the best games I ever played. Then, when my clan mates became less active, and I was finding myself "lone wolfing it", the game became less fun just like you said....running for 10 minutes to get to a point only to have artillary land on my head! What's worse is the team killing that's intentional...like when you're running to get in a helicopter and then your teammate kills you so he/she can fly it.....grrrr....that made me so mad everytime that happened! BF2 was a game that has great moments and completely horrible moments IMHO! whistling.gif

The Sims and The Sims 2:

Very boaring, living your own life is bad enough, living a Sim life...well you can only do so much and it just goes round in circles, build a house, going to the toilet...showering, bathing, eating, making out in bed (woo-hoo), have babies. Com'on, i think the old super mario brothers were more fun, i know they were different styled games, but still.

I wouldn't say it's the worst game ever, but Doom 3 isn't that great. Let's take somebody and throw them in an almost totally dark environment where they have to depend on their flashlight, but they can't use their flashlight at the same time with a weapon. Then, we'll put enemies at every corner of every room. It's perfect. . .

So far, I have not enjoyed a moment of my time with Doom 3, even with a flashlight mod.

*edit* about the Metal Gear Solid games, they're really awsome games, but they (namely MGS2) can be hard to follow and they can be quite difficult at times (MGS3. . .Sneaking without a rader is hard for me. . )
Wizdabest
F.E.A.R. isn't that great either. It throws you into the storyline fairly confused as a nameless character who doesn't speak and is never shown in any of the very few cutscenes. To make it worse, everybody tries to talk to you and tell you what to do, but all speech is based around not saying a name. Half-Life seems to have perfected the 'you are that character' thing and to try and mimic that effect without giving that character a name doens't seem to be a good idea.

Listening to people talk to you in F.E.A.R. is like watching people try to talk to Tidus in FFX.

Well the worst game in the world ISSS.....

Final Fantasy X-2 (closely followed by it's predecessor.)
Gah, the game is so lame and dull. Maybe if I was 10 years old I would like it.
Oh.. BTW that goes for both...

I am a big fan of the series or.. perhaps was >_> not sure anymore... FF XII will decide that for me when it's been launched in Europe.

Anyway, FF X and X-2 is the worst pile of junk ever piled in a junkyard.
Serious Dave
i think Serious Sam 2 is the Worlds Worst Letdown

the list of things they screwed up on is too big to post

the ultimate worst game of all time i can't remember the name of but my friend has it for playstation 1 and it is the stupidest most awesomly bad game in the world it is almost as stupid as my friend who plays it all the time. The game has 3 characters one is a fat guy with a hammer who's power is making an annoying noise and jumping (he's the only one who can jump)
Wizdabest
Like the two other games I mentioned above, this next game isn't really the worst, but it has some terrible qualities that in my opinion, would drive people away from it. That game is Far Cry (PC).

To start off, it has terrible voice acting including excessive and very annoying taunts from your enemies, the cutscenes graphically look like they took a step backwards (that is, if you can run the game with all settings maxed), HDR is cool but it's effect is a bit over done, the AI will bring tears to your eyes even on easy, and to make matters worse apart from 'aim-botting' AI, the game uses a checkpoint save system rather than a quicksave system. Also, the character animations are bad too, like put on cheats through the debug mode and go into third person view and watch how Jack runs, walks, and also how he moves while crouched.

Maybe it would have been a better idea to make Jack be wearing a green shirt rather than his red one. The game tries to make you find the best course of action through large environments (mainly by sneaking), but that whole concept is destroyed since you could be lying prone in dense folliage and have some guy half a mile away suddenly spot you and kill you with a precise headshot with one burst from his gun. To make it even worse, you can throw rocks to distract enemies but the instant that rock leaves Jack's hand, pretty much every enemy in the area instantly spots you and attacks.

I commend anybody who has gotten through Far Cry on any difficutly higher than normal without using cheats. Trust me, even playing on easy is still a pain in the butt, especially when you have soldiers that fire at you from a distance with rocket launchers and sniper rifiles. To make matters worse, later in the game, you'll encounter tons of hard to kill enemies that use rocket launchers like there is no tomorrow and they don't get any splash damage from their friendly fire, which makes killing them that much harder.

The only thing I give it is some good graphics and effects, other than that, I think it's a terrible game.

I mean, go from a grade 'A' game like Half-Life 2 (in terms of quality and other things like voice acting and such) and then play Far Cry and it's just a laughable experience. That is, till you have to load up the same check point thirty or more times because it's almost impossible to get to the next area, then it just becomes tearful frustrating experience.

i know i've posted in here but i might add sporting games which i think all of them are the worst as they are all boaring except for the orignal mario kart back on super nintendo. it was kinda fun when i was at that age.

the site below has a list of all (most) games on NES, SNES, PLaystation 1 & 2, X-Box, Sega etc and i think they even have PC if you wanted to refresh your memory on worst games as a title can help pick them out.

DJBPace07
On the PC side of things, my pick for worst game is Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. This game is awful. It has no physics, you can fall through the terrain everywhere, it's a racing game with no opponents, races are way to easy. For example, you can go forward right off the starting line and then back up to win. BTW when you win the race, the game says "You're Winner". Check out reviews of it. For the PS2, I'm an RPG fan, and my pick is Unlimited SaGa, waaaay to confusing and was pure crap.
mylogicistechno
I've seen worse games played, but the worst game I ever played was Septerra Core simply because every time you left an area, the same enemies would re-appear. This is fine in some games, but if you walked five feet and had to go back you had to fight the same enemies, and if you're in a maze-like setting having trouble finding your way out, it's not that fun. Maybe if the designated "area" for you to leave and return to had been bigger, it would be more enjoyable, but I got tired of trying to find my way through confusing places when every time I turned around I'm fighting the same enemies. I didn't get very far in this game because I got frustrated and just lost the motivation to keep trying.

You need to find some games that actually suck. If MGS3 is the worst game you've played, count yourself lucky.

Oh, and same for Far Cry. Yes, the game is hard. The final volcano level is insanity. But it's not at all unbeatable, especially once you learn how to properly take cover in the foliage. Ducking and covering from the relentless AI hunting you down is the best play in the game.

I think my vote will have to go to the big letdown and subsequent continual joke of the industry, Daikatana.

Its laughability second only to the vapor-ware classic Duke Nuke'm Forever (Whenever?)

Worst Game Ever: Halo 2.

WAIT! DON'T FLAME ME YET!

It was way too hyped for what it actually turned out to be. Seriously, a guy recently beat the story mode in 5 hours on Legendary. And you'll probably say "well, you don't play for the story mode - you play for online." I don't like obscenities being yelled at me by racist spoiled 13-year-olds. That's not that fun online play. I'd rather play Goldeneye, locally.

Again, just my opinion. You don't have to like it if you don't want to, but that's how I feel and I stick by it.
arcman
I wouldn't put Halo2 in the worst category myself. A little underwhelming, but it had solid good points. The cloak and sword option playing as an Elite was fun.

What's really a crock of BS is that MS is making it a Vista-only title when they port it, and man, screw that.
Wizdabest
Oh god yea, I have Halo for the PC (which isn't that great of a port in my opinion) and Halo 2 defiantly isn't going to make me want to go grab a copy of Vista.

I wouldn't say Halo is one of the worst games, but I agree that it was quite over hyped. I was quite dissapointed with how the game actually turned out and it was further worsened by the fact that my best friend was completly into the Halo hype machine and was spouting off all kinds of crazy things about how apparently great Halo 2 already was even though it wasn't even out yet and how better it was than every other game known to man. Being a fan of Half-Life 2, I couldn't stand that crap for long and I eventually stopped following Halo 2 and although I may like to see what happens with the story and how Halo 3 looks, I pretty much despise it now because of it's diehard fans.

DJBPace07
Personally, I found the story hard-to-follow at times. But I still enjoyed it anyway. Now that I think about it, it did introduce me to Final Fantasy. With the exception of FFXI, I've liked them all. I guess FFVII wasn't bizzle's type of game.
resp
Let me begin with this

To the few of you who said world of warcraft as a bad game, Let me say a few things, Being a player of it

FIrstly, the game requires no skill, It doesnt' take much to click a few buttons and come up with the same outcome as someone the same as you

Secondly, the game is all built around time, They don't care if theres a glitch here and there, they dont' care so much about how hard some bosses are, However there have been rumors that they gltich out new bosses to prevent them from being beat first 3 weeks into it. All they care about, is how can they get YOU the player, To play more , And spend more on the monthly fee, of 15 bucks

They will ban people who blatently cheat, because well, that upsets the medium. If high end guild A whines about some boss being glitched in this endgame instance, It'll go unnoticed, If half of hte worldwide raiding guilds say the same thing, They'll pick it up

THey dont' care about the individual, because they know that everyone has their opinion and cries about it from time to time, they care about how can they make the game so that some 7 year old can enjoy it. becuase if the 7 year old can enjoy it, The rest of the world is happy, No matter what age, that's why that game is one of the worst by far, However, I play it, because of the people IVe met, But Im about to quit

GTA, Was a pretty well made series, Its more for the young hip hop crowd, who wants to do what those idiots in the movie do of jacking cars and going on rampages.. I really enjoyed it as a kid, lol Brought some humor to me.

Doom3 had really good graphics, good gameplay as far as I played it, , the movie that they made of it, was pretty bad lol good for the explosions and blood nothing more

Splinter cell Double Agent, the newest addition to the tom clancy story.. this one is a true let down. Why? Because it was made so poorly that its utterly ridiculous..
my cousin went to play thsi game on his brand new computer, AMD 64 3500, 300 gig HD 7800 Nvidia, 1 gig ram, DVD burner yad ayada...

He got in the game, And it honestly crashed about, atleast a dozen times, before we even finished the second level, or even the first,
This game has no support to it, And the glitches are so ridiculous that when I went to search for a quick walkthrough guide..to see if I was doing a level right... I found a forum dedicated to people complaining about how it crashes so ridicluously much etc..lol I thought it was my cousins computer, but its the game itself..

the Halo Series is pretty good but the story never ends... only problem there..

Honestly Id have to go with counter strike, as the worst game ever

Not for gameplay, or anythting liek that, But because every kid and their dog in that game believes that the lower your ID the better you are, so when someone with a 9 digiter comes in and legitally destroys everyone, that guy basically gets auto blacklisted because he can't be tht good..

The game itself, is made pretty good, But the way that people have taken the game, Is utterly dumb as hell
Adn I say this, As a man who got his ID jacked by some punk kid, 1 week tomorrow. THus how I ended up on this board smile.gif

If people didn't make CS such a bad game, it woudl be enjoyable half the time, But, they've taken that game to the next level with the way that ids get jacked and sold (for nothing let me tell you lol 3 ids was going for like 20 bucks on ebay) and hte way that the company basically does nothing to ensure security on their customers...

Just my 2 cents..

Correction: HALO = World's most over-rated games. They're not bad, not bad at all. Fun for multi-player stuff, but it is NOT, by any stretch, worth the attention it gets. As a FPS, I'd rather play Doom 3.

Just don't get me started on X-2. That game should die. Take away my Nobuo... *mutters*

Oh my god. . . Final Fantasy X-2. Sadly, I own it (christmas present, didn't know what I was getting myself into). I tried to start up a new game a month or two ago after not playing it since it came out. . . Well, after about 10 minutes and I had about all that I could stand and the game was back in it's case collecting dust.

Wow that is a great opinion of Counter-Strike and it's quite correct as well. I'm glad I had an older girlfriend when I was a 15 year old freshman in High-school because she steered me straight of the complete ass Counter-Strike had made my friends and I. I still play Counter-Strike (mainly Condition Zero) a lot, but from a completly different viewpoint and you know what, I'm so glad I'm not like I was.

Seriously, if anybody hasn't played Counter-Strike at all, what this person said in that first paragraph is spot on. Everybody bases how good they are on bragging how early they started to play the game, even if you've only played a year and can whip them every round. Not only that, but anybody that can out perform them is instantly labeled a cheater. Now of course, there are some nasty cheating programs that many people love to use, but it can be hard to be a legitimatly skilled player in Counter-Strike, especially if you don't have a server you regularly and the players and admins know you well. I know that all too well, I've been banned from a number of servers.

To make matters worse, the general community of Counter-Strike is filled with complete a-holes. Basacially, I'd go mad if there wasn't a 'mute' button that can filter out the text and voice communication messages people use.

It's a fun game, but the community can ruin it for you real fast.

Funny Half-Life 2 comic about Counter-Strike. This link is perfect to portray the immature community of Counter-Strike. The comic in the link is the second one of a series of 4 about Counter-Strike. The comic's creater made a few more about Counter-Strike that are just as funny too. The numbers of the second set are, #110-#117. These are just as funny as the first set of CS comics.
