This is my second big problem in 3 days.
I had problems with Malware which have now been fixed.
My new problem is that when I go to IE and click on "Favorites" I get either a grey screen on the left or the "History" opens.
I have checked the folder C>Docs & Settings>All Users>Favorites and they are all there.
I have just upgraded to v7 to see if that would cure the problem but it has not.
Can anyone help me please.
If you need more information, I will supply it.
Thank you in advance.
GEORGE.

It sounds as if the cure was worse than the disease! Often what happens is that the removal of spyware/viruses will break something (it's because the malware is so invasive).

The usual fix is to reinstall the application. But, I'd expect that the installation of IE7 should have fixed this issue for you (but it obviously didn't).

I'm thinking that the high degree of integration between IE and XP may be a part of the problem here.

As such, here's a couple of suggestions:

1) Run SFC.EXE /SCANNOW from Run dialog ( http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic43051.html )

2) If that doesn't fix it, then you may want to try a repair install of XP (this will leave your programs and files intact): http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

USAMA,
Thank you for replying. I have cured the problem even though it was long winded and required a few hours work.
I opened each Favourite from the Favourites Folder and then did an Add to Favourites. I had to do this nearly 100 times, but at least I am now back in business.
