Hello!
I have recently started a job where I seem to have a certain amount of free time at the end of the day. I have a laptop which I would like to use for surfing the net and generally kill time with to fill these gaps. I work at a university and connect to the web via their network, however I am a little worried that there is someone in the IT department who could monitor my internet usage and web history if they wished to do so. To connect to the net via their network I don't need to log in to their system, I just plug in my network cable and I'm away. Is there any chance that someone in the system can see my time wasting?
Cheers,
mm

The simple answer is - yes it is possible.
But the fact you are not logging into or through an account as such, may make it a bit more difficult to track you down. You still can be tracked down if the IT Department there has their ducks lined up properly.
