Hello everyone.

I am having trouble with my broadband internet connection. Every so often, the 'net seems to stop, followed 30 seconds later by the dial-up connection box appearing. Clicking on 'Connect' button brings the response 'No dial tone detected check connections'. All connections are apparently fine. However, if a call is made on the 'phone (and there is a dial tone) the broadband can then re-connect and is fine for a while (sometimes a couple of minutes, sometimes much longer) until the same thing happens again.

I don't know if it is a coincidence, but it seems to happen more between 6pm and 11pm (busiest time for home users?).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, Tom.

Okay, I'm a bit confused here.

You say that you have broadband connection.

Then you say when it disconnects a dial-up connection box shows up.

But, dial-up is not broadband.

What kind of broadband conneciton do you have? I'm guessing DSL, but the phone wires that are used to produce a dial-tone for a telephone are different from the wires used to connect to DSL, so a telephone's lack of a dial-tone should not be related to the DSL connection unless the phone lnes themselves are out of commission, such as snapped or broken.

Thanks for responding.

According to the Control Panel I am connected via an 'ISDN Channel - SpeedTouch USB ADSL PPP' to Tesco Broadband (a UK national provider). It is definately broadband as you can use the phone and internet together.

Hope this info helps, I am an amateur when it comes to this sort of thing....

Thanks again, Tom.

Problem now appears to be solved (Windows not set up correctly, trying to connect to broadband via old modem connection screen....). Thanks for your help.

I'm glad you have the problem solved. thumbup2.gif I had thought from the initial post that the settings might possibly have something to do with the problem, but I am not knowledgeable enough in that area to provide information as I have only used dial-up. dry.gif However, I am somewhat good at asking questions to refine the problem. smile.gif
