I have lost my color in all photos and vids.....and the background is like a patterned table cloth.
I have received multiple messages that display adapter is not configered properly. When I go to the display properties area, however, it now only has the 16 color choice. It did have a higher number for color pallate and a High color number but these last two choices are now gone. Also the slide for sizing the pixcels is now frozen.Have tried every alternative I can think of to fix but to no avail. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thanks.

Oh, by the way, I am using win98 2nd ed. Have rerun that disk a number of times but it doesnt change the problem

What do you mean by "rerun the disk"?

Look in your device manager and see if there is an update available for your video adapter.

I would also suggest that you run a virus scan after making certain that your anti-virus program has the most current updates.

In addition to your resident av program run the following on-line anti-virus scans:
Trend Micro antivirus and malware scan:

Ewido Online scan

Sygate Trojanscan

Windows Security Trojanscan

See instructions for it here:

Parasite scan from Aumha:

Dear Enthusiast: Thank you for being the only one who has sought to help me.

I am using win 98(2nd edition)...and it is that upgrade disk that I kept running to get my color back. I have been using the Ad-aware and spybot programs to eliminate the virus and spyware etc to keep computer on track. Then I did buy the xoftspySE to further clean the crap out of computer(per your recommendation). The latter did get rid of a lot of additional junk. However, it did not cure my color problem.

I still go to display properties and when I try to go to 800x600 size and High color settings those setting keep going back to 16 color and 640x480 setting. Each one changes the setting on the other. Cant think of anything else to do. Am considering buying a new hard drive to fix this problem....although if I put out the money to do that I might as well go ahead and buy a new computer.

Ps: I cant afford to buy all of the other programs on your list of software fix-it recommendations.
Anyway, thanks for your help. Sally. Let me know if you have any other ideas.

A new hard drive will not solve your problem. It sounds like the video driver might have gotten corrupted. Right click My Computer, select Properties, Hardware, and click on Device Manager. Click on the + next to Display Adapter and highlight and right click the video adapter and select Properties. Select the tab that says Drivers and let us know what it says about your display adapter and also what version of driver you have. This way someone can help you find an updated version of your driver.

Hi sallyb, the links provided by enthusiast are all free scans. Try them again.

I don't see where any of those lead to an option to by that product. You are probably infected with something if you are being redirected to purchase sites.
A new drive will be the costliest way to get rid of malware. Also it will not slove a driver problem. Did you check the drivers as Jazzygirl recommended.
