Hi folks

Just had my malware problems sorted by Buckeye Sam (Thanks Sam)
but I now have another problem resulting from the spysheriff infection.

During the process office and publisher (XP Pro - SP2) ceased to open and even though present in all the menu's I couldn't open them, so I reinstalled (didn't give me the option to repair)

Now what is happening is each time I open an office programme the windows installer flashes away not actually getting on with the business of installing anything. It doesn't show up in running processes in the task manager. The same thing happens when I open Outlook.

I have tried leaving the installation disk in to see if it will pick up from there, but nothing has happened, so I removed the disk and it is still happening.

Any suggestions please?

Other than that is Office working properly?

If it is, run the following web based scan using Internet Explorer:

Windows One Care Free Scan

Go to Windows Live Onecare Free Scan
It will say "Get a free PC safety scan"
http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

Make sure you click "Full Service Scan" in the middle of the page and
not the "Try It Now Free" on the right side.

Allow it to download an Active X component.
Choose "Complete Scan" in the window that opens
Click "Next"
Do not click on anything else that offers you a free trial or to sign up if you live in the US.

Allow it to scan - it may take quite a while, maybe two hours or so depending on how big your hard drive is and how fragmented your registry and drive are.

I solved my problems (most) with windows installer ( see previous post, page 10 (?))
by uninstalling " windows installer 3.1
