Hi…

When I switch my PC on at some point fairly early on loading I have noticed this message

Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2
%1 : %2

Continuing to loads Windows

This message is on the screen for a flash then continues with loading up, I only noticed this the day after I was unable to create a restore point… As this had only happened on the 2nd of this month I tried to do a restore too a couple of day’s before, with no success…
Right or wrongly I pulled the plug; after 3 hour while restore had appeared to have locked up ie: from the restore screen waiting for the progress bar to move, nothing…

On re-booting scan disk started and found

Did Scandisk correct the problem?

Nope ScanDisk fixed the errors as described, but I'm still left with this on start up...

System restore just say's re-boot and try again

This morning I must have forgot to click "Add Reply" before I went out...


I don't have a master CD of Windows ME as it was all pre-installed when I purchased this PC from new. Since then I've had Windows ME Re-installed when I had to have a new 80Gig hard drive fitted, now I have a C Master & D Slave

I've also found a floppy disc with "ME bak Emergency Start Up" wrote on, but for the life can't remember when I made it, ie: before or after the new hard drive.

It has the following files on it.

The boot disk looks fine..you tried this also?

From the link that through a error unable to locate the requested article.
In the search box, I just type in 283069 which took me too a page with two option. I recommend any one else trying this to print the instruction out first...
With the "ME bak Emergency Start Up" floppy disk; Method 1 has done the trick

As for item 19, I have know idea which program caused the error in the first place and couldn't find "Symptoms" section.

As all seems well now, i'm just going to tread carefully for a few days...
