Have you loaded the drivers that came with the motherboard? Have you checked Device Manager to see if there are any red x's or yellow !'s there?

no red x's or yellow ones. i loaded the drivers that came along with the dvd-writer but all there is a auto update, no drivers and incidentally that doesn't seem to detect any drivers on the web either. i can't seem to find lg's drivers for the dvd-writer, what should i do?

Generally, the drivers that it needs are built into the motherboard chipset. So, I'd suggest that you update your motherboard drivers first - to ensure that it's not a corruption in them that's causing the problem.
