gah, i recently went to dl the installer for a game (rappelz online)
first i saved the zipped installer into my C drive
then i unzipped the setup file into my D drive and deleted the zip file from C.
finally i installed the game into C drive and deleted the installer from D drive using shift+del but somehow the 1gb space that the setup file took did not come back.
does anyone know wats wrong? help will be greatly appreciated (ps. no the file isnt in my recycle bin )

Hmm, I actually don't have a clue about this - but, naturally, I do have some suggestions!

1) Empty the Recycle Bin even if the file isn't in there.
2) Defrag the C: and D: drives
3) Run chkdsk /f /r on both drives
4) Check Disk Management (Start...Run...type in "diskmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter). Check to see if the disk capacity is properly recognized there.

hmm i've done 1 and 2 alrdy, but how to do 3(chkdsk)?
disc management results show the same as newhere else. D drive capacity is 14.23gb, free space 2.31gb. but when i select all the files in the D drive, total space they occupy is 10.8gb
i've tried using disc cleanup too.

*edit: i went to dl diskdata ver 2.2 freeware and i added up the files in D drive to be 11068mb while the "Used space" shows 12211mb

You'll get dialog that asks you if you want to let it run at the next boot - tell it Yes and then reboot.

I suspect that, somewhere in your summing of the stuff on your drive, there is a missing chunk that will account for the missing space.

Eh, the chkdsk only scanned my C drive. Also, spacemonger showed the same results as others. there were no odd blocks and free space was 2.3gb. Could it be possible that somehow the 1gb of space got screwed up and turned into void volume when i deleted the file using shift+del?

on a sidenote, after running an antivirus, my C drive has trojans. not sure if this is affecting my D drive.

I suggest you get rid of the malware before proceeding further on any other issue as it can cause all kinds of other issues and misinformation.

Run both Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy from safe mode, updating each program’s malware definitions before you scan and allowing both to fix what they find.
