I am running Windows 2000 server v5.0, Svc. Pack 4.
My DNS event log is filling up with Event 5504. "The DNS server encountered an invalid domain name in a packet from 206.13.31.12. The packet is rejected. " I have seen some sites recommending that I turn off my DNS forwarding service. How do I do this and is it even advisable? If not what should I do?

In case anyone is interested, here is a dcdiag log:

Done gathering initial info.
Doing initial non skippeable tests
Testing server: Default-First-Site-Name\DOMAIN
Starting test: Connectivity
DOMAIN's server GUID DNS name could not be resolved to an

Although the Guid DNS name
(4e4a1657-760e-4637-a5d5-63ca01e543a5._msdcs.KVCS.LOCAL) couldn't be
resolved, the server name (DOMAIN.KVCS.LOCAL) resolved to the IP
address (192.168.1.15) and was pingable. Check that the IP address is
registered correctly with the DNS server.
......................... DOMAIN failed test Connectivity

5504's are based on an illegal character. No undrescores, spaces, etc are
allowed. You'll have to find the offending machine that has that IP and
rename it.
