This may be an answer for people (me) who have trouble running a-squared FREE v2.0 in safe mode due to GUI size:
Just released: Command line scanner, also FREE

I just tried it on Windows2000. It ran fine in the cmd window. I will report after trial on XP in safe mode, my key need, as mentioned in this thread:

edit: added that it's FREE version

Runs fine in safe mode in Windows XP home SP2 as well.. VERY FINE UTILITY.
If you can handle command line syntax, this is worth trying.
Readme file is included.
There are a lot of switches, all can be used, though you may want to try on a small directory first to see whether to include or exclude the "h" switch. I've had problem with "h", was getting nowhere with it included.
- Make sure to put directory names in quotes if the name contains spaces.
- Make sure directories exist and are entered correctly, especially for the log file, if such is needed, which it is most of the time I would think.

Thanks for the update, tos226.

You're welcome. Just trying to contribute a tiny bit to this great site.

This will most likely be the last on this subject.
There's been an update. The /h switch I mentioned above is no longer an issue, can be used.
Very nice program, as no installation required, so it's completely portable.
I scanned in safe mode using /f="C:\". When it run in safe mode, number of processes was 10.

Just to show BC what it looks like, I ran it now with my ZoneAlarm Security suite, in standard mode. I replaced directory by "dirName", and my user name by "myName" in the below example run.

All I had to do is permit a2 to communicate with windows\system32\smss.exe for just this one time but this is not the mode I'll be running it in, as the whole purpose was safe mode.
