Ocassionally I get a blue screen error that says "beginning dump of physical memory". I didn't think to write down the rest of the error message. It only happens when I am on the internet. Is this a serious problem. If so do you know how to fix the problem. Other than that it seems to be running fine. I am using Windows 2000 Pro.

You need to post the exact error message.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think to write down the error but when it happens it again I will write it down and post again.

mamacat1958: You could also find it in the Event Viewer. Please see this BC mini guide for more info on the Event Viewer.

How To Use Event Viewer

Hope that helps.

I noticed from the log that you have a Dell computer. Dell computers come with a diagnostic CD that you can start your computer with and run a full set of tests to check to see if you have a hardware issue. Boot up with the CD, and run the tests to see if anything fails. If so, write down the error messages(s) and reply back to this topic. If you do not have the diagnostic CD, you could download it from the Dell website.

If you are stuck, reply back to this topic and we can try to help you.

By the way, what is the exact make and model of your Dell?

Here's what I found about your stop message...(from http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm )

0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article, or see Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit, p. 1558.)
One of three types of problems occurred in kernel-mode: (1) Hardware failures. (2) Software problems. (3) A bound trap (i.e., a condition that the kernel is not allowed to have or intercept). Hardware failures are the most common cause (many dozen KB articles exist for this error referencing specific hardware failures) and, of these, memory hardware failures are the most common.

Good-luck.

Thank you for your fast reply. My computer is a Latitude C600 and I don't have a diagnostic CD for it, but I have one for my desktop at home. Do you think I can use it even though my desktop is Windows XP. If not I can go into the Dell website and download it.

I am not sure on being able to use your Dell desktop diagnostic on a Dell laptop...

Here's the link to the download page for your model:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...88&vercnt=3

Some systems have the ability of loading the diagnostic utility by bringing up the Dell boot menu. (f12 key on some systems). I am not sure if your laptop has that feauture.... most of the newer Dells do.

Anyways, the link above should work for you.

Good-luck.

Just to answer your earlier question...It looks there is a diagnostic utility made for the latitude.(linked in the above post) So, you wouldn't be able to use your desktop diagnostic utility on your laptop. Makes sense since there would be differences in the hardware and the type of tests.(Battery test etc)

Here's a link to your manual that talks about running the diagnostic utility.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/syst.../en/ug/diag.htm

By the way, the exact name for the CD is the Dell ResourceCD.

I am going to have to wait until I get home to do the diagnostic. I want to burn a copy to a CD and I don't have a burner on this laptop. It will be later in the week. When I do the diagnostic and find anything I will do another post and maybe find out what is going on. I don't want to try anything that might mess this thing up right now because I need it while I am away from home. Thanks for your help.

Okay, mamacat1958. I will look for your reply when you return.
If your laptop passes all of the hardware tests, we can look at troubleshooting your Operation System(Windows 2000) next.
