Running W2000 I am unable to delete a leftover icon on the desktop after the related software was deleted. Windows Explorer indicates it is a System Folder (named Sony Ericsson File Manager); however, it can not be selected and deleted via Windows Explorer. It is shown directly under the Desktop hiarchy. When right clicking on the icon no delete is available; only Open (can't be opened as software was deleted), Explore, Create Shortcut, and Rename is presented. Suggestions on how to delete this icon and folder would be appreciated.

You have a damaged string in one of the run keys of the registry. Run
msconfig and take a look at the location strings for each entry. Uncheck
ones that begin with "C:\Program Files\Common Files...", then click apply/ok
and reboot to see if the problem still ocurs.
Good Luck.

Running msconfig I found only one file as you indicated c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\UsrPrmpt.exe which I unchecked; however, it did not help. Thanks for the suggestion.

Kinda makes me wonder if there isn't remnants of the program that you removed, left on your h/d.
Try doing a search by going to search/all files and folders and type in the name of the program you removed. It would be a good idea if you enabled the search to look in the hidden files and folders also.(Control Panel/Tools/Folder Options/View/Advanced Settings/Scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders.Click on "Show Hidden Files and Folders"/Okay)
If the search comes up with anything related to the removed program, delete those files/folders,reboot and your Icon s/b gone.

I was able to delete the icon/folder by using the software Shell Object Editor as suggested on the aumha.net forum.
Thanks for your suggestion - problem now solved.
