Hey all, just a quick question. My BIOS says it detects the RAM speed via spd (whatever that means) I can also choose to set the speed myself. Seeing as my ram runs at 533mhz, can I just set it to run at this value? At the moment I run everest and it says my ram is running at 266mhz...which sounds iffy. If I'm not getting everything out of my memory, I want to. I have 2gb ddr2 pc4200 ram running in daul channel.

You should probably ask your motherboard manufacturer.

On the RAM module there is an SPD chip which contains info about the RAM and its rated speed. If it is running according to SPD it should be running at what the RAM is rated for. Though it is possible that the BIOS has a bug and is setting it up wrong.

Technically the RAM is running at 266MHz, but it being DDR (Double Data Rate) makes it as if it was running at 533MHz. So the question is if it is running at 533MHz (actually 266MHz) or 266MHz (actually 133MHz)

Here's a pdf file that contains the basics of memory settings in the BIOS:
