I have McAfee Security (Virus Scan, Firewall, Privacy, etc.). Any recommendations on whether I should keep this or change to Norton, etc.?

Also, when I start up I get an error message re: "Virus Scan can not recreate events" & I am always requested to log into "McAfee Privacy" before being able to continue to the Internet. McAfee Tech support was useless in helping me with these issues. Please advise, if possible mad.gif

I used McAffee and Norton before, but they were such system consumers! (i have 128 MB Ram).

Hi Brockmoller. Welcome to bleepingcomputer.com
I usually try to recommend free products, although a long trial period shareware can come in handy under stressful times like when you've got problems.
  • An excellent free program is AVG, if you need an option.
This program can be set to automatically scan & either auto-update or you may choose to do that yourself.
Virus definition updates with this program occur frequently, which is very good.
  • 14.63MB
3. Use a Firewall, but use only one. If you install your own, disable the built-in winXP firewall. Your Norton program provides for this.
  • An excellent free programs is:
  • Sygate
  • 11.13MB
  • (fully understanding it's operation may require some thought & a little practice, but it helps to have it installed and functioning)
One thing to remember is it takes some time to use & get comfortable with a program. If it works well, then keeping it becomes a good option.
Expiration on a free program is never. Payment doesn't come due.
