My brother-in-law is in Madrid. He said he has heard of a device that, when connected to your computer, allows you to speak with another person anywhere in the world, and that it's really clear. He's not big on computers but I know he isn't confusing voice chat with this. We know about voice chat. Is anyone aware of this product? Or is he totally whacko (not impossible, lol) and is just off his rocker?
All he says is that it's a device you connect to the computer - not a microphone or a headset or anything like that. He isn't referring to Yahoo chat, etc...
Let me know if you have some input. If nothing else, I can make sure the right questions are asked, lol.
Thanks.

He is not crazy.
You can do 'video phones' with nearly any webcam. They even sell them in pairs for this reason. If I am not mistaken, they even include 2 copies of the software for both ends to install. I know that they was a huge seller during the holidays for those who are overseas, and I do not see it changing this year.
Did a search for free video conferencing webcams.Check out these links. All you need is a webcam on both end, and the software to instal. In most cases, they are free, but they also offer premium, paid-services.

VoIP - voice over IP
Is a small device that connects to your phone and to your internet connection.
This link should help you understand it.

Thanks everyone for all the info. As it turns out, he was surfing the web and came across
Actiontec and interpreted it all wrong. He was thinking about the internet phone wizard.
I'm with you Cows! Why buy any equipment other than a microphone/speaker headset? For less than $20 for the headset, or even less for just the microphone, you can talk for free ANYWHERE using Yahoo or MSN, etc... you don't even need a cam for that either.
Well, thanks again all.
