So, I was having several problems with my computer which is about 6 years old. I was told that I could run the HP Recovery Program and this would put me back to the original state that the computer was in when I bought it. Since I already purchased a newer computer and wanted this one as a back up, this sounded like a good idea.

I copied the majority of my files to CD's and then ran the recovery disks that came with my computer at purchase. After starting the recovery program it stated that it was missing some files, so I could not proceed and I can not go back either.

I am dead in the water. I still would like to use this computer on occasion. Is there a way to undo this?

I had a similar issue with a Compaq computer that I had added hardware to(SCSI card) after I purchased....it would not complete the system restore. I had to remove the additional hardware, and put the computer back to its original hardware configuration. Not sure if that is your issue here.

Here's some troubleshooting steps from HP/Compaq:

Troubleshooting System Recovery Problems in Windows XP

OR...

HP Pavilion Desktop PCs - Troubleshooting Recovery Problems in Windows 95, 98 and Me

Hope that helps. If it doesn't, please reply back with the exact make and model of your computer, and the OS that was originally installed.
