The process.exe file was stored in the following directory on my system:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Process.exe

I seem to remember either A-squared or Ewido removed that file when I did a scan,
however, can't find the log. Do I need to restore that file? If so, how do I go about doing that?

Hello tthadish

I'm not sure I understand what your trying to do here. Did you download the smitfraudfix tool and use it on your computer because of problems with this infection? If so, were you successful or are you saying you were not able to run the tool because process.exe was missing.

process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. When you unzip the tool it is found in the smitfraud folder along with several other files.

I was trying to run the program because I wanted to see if there were any remaining infections.
It helped with some infections my PC had when I ran it before.

Following was the error message I received before I posted my question:

Process.exe missing!
Unzip all the archive in a folder.

Press any key to continue...

Since the error message didn't specify the location of the file, I didn't realize that the
error message was referring to the process.exe file in the Smitfraudfix folder...I just thought
it was referring to the process.exe file that was previously stored in my windows\system32
folder before it was removed by one of the antivirus softwares I use.

I downloaded Smitfraudfix from a website again and the process.exe file is now included
in the Smitfraudfix folder...I gotta be more careful next time I perform antivirus scans.

Thanks for all your help! clapping.gif

This is a specialized fix tool created to deal with smitfraud infections. It was not intended for general scanning use like Ad-aware or Spybot. You need to be very careful when using any specialized fix tool as some could cause more problems. For example, running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background. Best to seek advice before using any of them.
