why are socket 939 mobos dying out?is there something wrong with them?

I think what is happening is that the AM2 is getting the attention for the moment, but it looks like the only real difference in performance is that the AM2 will use DDR2. I wouldn't give up on the 939 just yet, especially now the AMD has made large price cuts in their CPUs.

but the store i buy all my computer parts from doesnt even carry 939 CPUs anymore?

Shop elsewhere. Newegg.com has 119 models for sale and in stock.

i know newegg does but i dont have any credit card or debit card to get things online.

You can pay by check, or you can get a PayPal account. Newegg accepts those payment methods, as do most online stores.

Socket 939 rocks. I just did my first build with an ASUS A8N-SLI and its rock-steady and fast as lightning. Not even a hiccup as I load new programs, updated drivers, etc. From power-on until fully booted is running about 20 seconds.
Don't know why your local retailer quit carrying them, except maybe their vendor bought a bunch of newer format boards that need to get sold. Such is the world of marketing. Buy a 939 mobo with an AMD processor online from Newegg or Tigerdirect and you won't be sorry.
